Chapter 1,481 The carnival before leaving(1/2)

The next stop for Carter and Edward was the village of Ethiopia, which was built by the Moors on the top of a mountain on the Mediterranean coast in the 10th century.

The main building in the village is a stone castle called the Golden Sheep Palace.

Edward and Carter were sitting at a table facing the window in the restaurant of this hotel, which is said to be the most exclusive hotel in the world. Both of them had put on new well-made suits. Carter was putting a large piece of toast covered with caviar into his mouth.

inside.

After a period of silence, Carter couldn't help but start his "origin history theory" again!

Carter: "Do you know how the roe is harvested?"

Edward seemed to be used to Carter's style. After all, Carter originally wanted to be a history professor: "Tell me about it."

Carter began to elaborate: "When a fisherman catches a female gillfish, he must be very careful to let it die peacefully. If it feels it is in danger, it will secrete an acidic chemical that destroys the roe.

.”

Edward took a bite and laughed: "That sounds a lot like my third wife."

He paused again, seeming to be thinking about his third wife: "That woman thought mayonnaise grew on trees."

Carter took a sip of champagne.

Carter glanced at him and said, "If it were me, I could get used to this."

Edward: "That sounds like my third wife, too."

Edward said, looking sideways at the scenery outside the window.

He didn't know whether he was sighing or laughing at himself: "I have come here often for more than thirty years, but this is the first time I have been with a man."

Carter looked at him: "It's an honor."

There was another silence between the two, and then Edward Cole broke the silence.

He said with some nostalgia: "The time Emily celebrated her tenth birthday was the best."

Carter was a little confused: "Who is Emily?"

Edward was startled for a moment and said: "My little one - oh, she is not little anymore, she is this year..."

Carter was surprised: "You have a daughter? I remember you said..."

Edward was a little disappointed: "Yes... I wasn't familiar with you at that time. But, I won't see her anyway."

After a moment of silence, Carter took out his unfinished wish list from his shirt pocket.

Edward was surprised: "What are you going to do?"

Carter glanced at him and said, "Maybe it's time."

Then he wrote in the blank space at the top of the list: "Contact your family."

Edward said angrily: "Bring it here."

Carter didn't understand: "Why?"

Edward grabbed the list and his reaction seemed a little fierce, more fierce than any time before: "Why?"

Edward said as he picked up a pen and crossed out that sentence.

After another while, Edward's strong reaction made the atmosphere between the two heavy. Carter felt very embarrassed, and he suddenly stood up from the dining table.

Edward looked up at him: "What?"

Carter apologized: "Please forgive me."

Edward: "Where are you going?"

Carter walked away, leaving Edward alone with his caviar...

Edward was a little irritated: "Oh, you look like a girl."

Edward sat for a while longer, then finally took off his napkin, threw it on the table, and followed Carter.

The camera switched to Carter standing in front of a sink in the bathroom of the Golden Sheep Palace, his back to the camera, wiping the front of his shirt with a towel.

Edward walked in: "Look, I'm sorry, I go a little too far sometimes."

Carter turned around. The front of his shirt was soaked in blood.

Edward shouted in horror: "Oh my God."

Carter shook his head and said, "I'm fine."

Edward said quickly: "I have to take you to the hospital."

Carter shook his head and glanced down: "It's just that the catheter cap is loose. Look, hasn't this stopped? I'm fine, let's go out."

An overhead long shot shows a beautiful old French castle where Edward and Carter stayed.

It can be called inhumane!

Edward and Carter walked into the richly furnished living room.

Carter couldn't help but ask again: "How much money do you have?"

Edward reminded: "Don't drip blood on the carpet."

Carter said nonchalantly: "Go and take a good bath in the bathtub, and I'll be fine."

At this time, Thomas was on the phone.

Thomas said into the phone: "Very good, then we've settled."

After hanging up the phone, he said to Edward: "Everything is done. There was a little problem, but it has been solved. I will go to Cairo tomorrow, then spend two days in Tanzania, and then go to Johannesburg on Saturday."

Edward said: "Thomas, I want to tell you that you are really a rare talent, but I deliberately didn't say so before."

Thomas looked indifferent as I had known him for a long time: "Thank you for your candor."

At this time, Carter's voice came: "Look at this! You can also see the "Prize Quiz" program in the bathroom."

Edward looked confused: "What?"

Carter said excitedly: "There is a "prize quiz" on TV."

Edward and Thomas looked at each other, and then Thomas walked out. Edward was about to speak, but his phone rang.

Edward muttered to himself: "The French version of "Prize Quiz"?"

He picked up his phone and checked the caller ID, but he didn't know who was calling.

Edward picked up: "Hello."

It turned out that the call was from Carter's wife Virginia. She asked about Carter and where they were. She hoped to get Carter home.

Virginia said on the other end of the phone: "I'm not making this call for him... Mr. Cole, I have been a nurse all my life and have witnessed countless human tragedies of life and death, more than any woman has ever seen.

More than anything else. I was mentally prepared for my husband's death...but I never thought about losing him while he was still alive."

Edward stared into space...he was speechless.

On the other hand, Carter was still immersed in the "prize quiz" and couldn't extricate himself.

Edward was a little tangled and hesitant, but he still said: "I said, I have been thinking about it. Look, you are wearing a catheter and whatnot, should we exercise some control?"

Carter thought Edward was worried about his unexpected situation today: "Don't worry about me, I'm fine."

Edward shook his head and hesitated slightly: "That's not...the problem is this. If you are afraid of disappointing me...actually, I think it makes sense. I mean, maybe you should consider it.

Family matters."

Carter turned off the TV and said, "You're on the phone with Virginia."

Edward was speechless.

Carter looked at Edward and said seriously: "Why do you think I want to travel?"

Edward thought for a moment and said, "I advised you to do this."

If it was Carter who hesitated to accompany Edward on a wild ride, it was indeed Edward who persuaded him.

So this time it's the other way around.

Carter said: "Edward, you are a strong person, but you are not strong enough."

He pondered for a moment: "After Rachel left home and went to live in the university, I felt empty in my heart. I no longer had to supervise her to do her homework, go to their interschool ball games, listen to her recitals, watch

There was a performance by the school theater troupe, the children were fighting, crying, scraping their knees, etc.

For the first time in forty years, Virginia and I were the only ones looking at each other. There was no noise, no distractions. I couldn't even think of myself walking down the street alone without holding her hand.

, what would it feel like. She is still the girl I fell in love with back then, and she has not changed at all, but after all, everything is different. We have lost something unknowingly along the way...

"

Edward nodded slowly, deeply moved by Carter's frankness.

Carter did not go back after all, and they came to the next stop together, because there was one item on Edward's bucket list: "Hunt a big cat!"

They did go, and they also brought shotguns, but in the end, under Carter's persuasion, they just fired empty guns.

However, despite this, the feeling of driving in the wilderness is indeed wonderful, even if it is just shooting into the sky.
To be continued...
