Chapter 1617 Celebrating the whole world
With the clean end of the landing battle in Tinian Island, the Battle of Guam is also coming to an end.
After a long and fierce war was consumed, by early August 1944, the Japanese troops in Guam were in a desperate situation of lack of food, ammunition and technical equipment.
Under such circumstances, Hidera Ota knew that the US military had an absolute advantage in firepower, and the Japanese army had no ability to confront it head-on.
In order to carry out a lasting resistance, Eira Obata had to withdraw his troops to the area south of Guam, and planned to use the San Rosa Mountains in the center of the island to carry out the final resistance.
But the ideal is full of reality and the Allies have mastered the absolute control of sea and air superiority around Guam.
Therefore, no matter how stubborn the Japanese army resisted, they could not supply or reinforce. At best, they would only delay the time of the complete defeat by several days.
The heavy rainstorms and thick jungle caused great difficulties for the Allied offensives, but they could not stop the victory.
From August 2 to August 4, 1944, the Allies made breakthrough progress in Barigada Mountain, and the Japanese defense line collapsed.
The rest of the war is nothing more than chasing the remaining brave men and chasing the enemy in the north, until all the enemy troops who dare to resist stubbornly are eliminated.
It was almost the same as the situation on other Pacific battlefields. The Japanese army refused to surrender and fought to the end, almost all the soldiers were killed.
On August 10, Lieutenant General Obata Hidera, the commander of the 31st Army, the highest commander of the Japanese defenders in Guam, sent a final farewell signal to the Tokyo Base Camp, and then committed suicide by separating the stomach.
But the battle did not end. It was not until August 12 that the US military captured the last position of the Japanese army. Obata and the personnel at the command center were either killed or committed suicide.
At this point, the Japanese resistance was basically quelled.
There are about 9,000 Japanese troops hiding in jungles and caves on the island, and they come out to harass them from time to time, sweeping the battles of the Japanese remnants until the end of the war.
In September 1945, the last batch of Japanese troops came out to surrender, and most of the 9,000 Japanese troops died of starvation in the jungle and caves due to supply cuts.
In the World War Guam, 18,560 Japanese soldiers were killed, 1,250 were captured, 1,435 American soldiers were killed and 5,648 were injured, almost half less than the Battle of Saipan.
The main reason is that before the landing war was launched, the Allied forces greatly strengthened their naval gun and aviation fire preparations, and used bloody facts to prove the importance of artillery preparations in landing wars.
At this point, the Battle of Mariana Islands was declared over, and the US military occupied the Mariana Islands and broke through Japan's internal defense circle.
The Japanese ruling group was panicked and internal conflicts intensified. Tojo was forced to resign as prime minister, army minister and chief of staff, and retired from the military and political stage.
Subsequently, the army general Koi Iso Kyuaki, who was formerly known as the "Tiger of Goryeo", served as prime minister.
And at this time, the largest landing battle in the 20th century, the Normandy Landing Campaign, came to an end.
On August 25, 1944, Paris was liberated and the Battle of Normandy was officially declared.
In this battle, the Allied forces mobilized 36 divisions, 170,000 vehicles, 600,000 tons of various supplies, with a total force of 2.88 million, of which 1.53 million were in the army.
The Allied forces suffered a total of 122,000 casualties, including 73,000 US troops, and the Navy lost 1 battleship, 3 cruisers, 8 destroyers, 3 frigates and 48 other ships.
The German army suffered 73,000 casualties, 41,000 captured people, lost 3,500 aircraft, 13,000 tanks, 20,000 vehicles, more than 3,000 artillery pieces, and 400,000 personnel.
The successful landing of Normandy and the return of the US and British troops to the European continent brought about a fundamental change in the strategic situation of World War II.
The Battle of Normandy lasted for three months, with a total casualties of 700,000 on both sides, and the tragic level of the war was comparable to that of the Battle of Stalingrad.
As Eisenhower said after landing in Normandy:
"The Normandy battlefield is undoubtedly one of the largest slaughterhouses that have ever appeared in the war field. The passages, roads and fields are filled with derelict weapons and equipment, and corpses of people and livestock. It is extremely difficult to pass through this area."
"Only Dante could describe the scene I saw, he walked up hundreds of yards in one breath, and his steps were all on dead and rotten corpses..."
In a blink of an eye, the war has come to an end, and the Allies are rapidly reversing the situation.
The Soviet Red Army on the Eastern Front became more and more braver. After Kursk, the German army never occupied an active position on the land covered by the Bolsheviks.
Now the Allies on the Western Front also want to let the heads of state understand the cold reality of the plot reversal, and the Nazi fascism will be completely ended on the European continent.
August 25th is really a good day for everyone to celebrate. Just as Paris announced its liberation, Yang Fan's long-awaited first domestic Worcester-class light cruiser was finally completed and launched.
As the first large self-produced warship of the Chinese Hu Ben Army, its great significance and inspirational role are naturally self-evident. As the supreme leader of the Hu Ben Army, Yang will naturally not be absent and asked someone to organize and plan related celebrations early.
On that morning, before the sky was completely dawn, Jiaozhou Bay Military Port was already crowded, and the entire scene was even more joyful, with colorful flags flying everywhere, filled with various inspiring banners and slogans.
Such festive major events naturally need to be done well. Not only were reporters from newspapers and newspapers, representatives from all walks of life organized by the official military, political and business, and countless ordinary military and civilians who came to see them.
At this moment, on the boat slide beside the port, a giant 202 meters long and 21.5 meters wide was docked steadily, attracting everyone's attention and attention.
As long as the audience has a camera in their hands, they will take photos from various angles and postures at any cost to leave a precious historical mark.
Its majestic steel body and a dense weapon system full of power and murderous aura are indeed exciting and fascinating.
That’s right, this is the protagonist of today’s launch ceremony: the Yingyang light cruiser!
After the atmosphere was full, it was only ten o'clock in the morning that Yang Fan "later came" and officially came to the stage to preside over the launch ceremony of the Yingyang light cruiser.
Amid the loud military music, Yang Fan faced the hot gaze of everyone, and under the flashing lights, he walked onto the rostrum with a spring breeze on his face.
"Today is a good day for everyone to celebrate together. Just two hours ago, the Allies officially liberated Paris, and the landing of Normandy, which lasted for three months, ended successfully!
Today, the first modern light cruiser produced by our China Hu Ben Army is about to officially enter the water. At this moment, I feel the same as everyone else,..."
