The T2 group belongs to the mass-produced modified racing group. Racing cars of this level can be adapted to the appropriate race adaptability based on the mass-produced cars, but the original car structural components such as engine, gearbox, and suspension cannot be changed. Otherwise, they will be classified as the T1 group.

The T3 group is relatively uncommon and is a model that meets the special requirements of the International Automobile Federation, but is not inferior to the T1 and 2 groups.

The T4 group is the truck group, and the participating vehicles with a weight of more than 3.5 tons are all included in this group. The truck group has no restrictions on the driving form, but it cannot exceed the eight-wheel drive at most. Among them, it is divided into two groups: 1.2, representing mass production trucks and experimental trucks. In addition, because the event was held in South America, the bridge cable limit of Argentina and Chile was 4 meters, the maximum trucks could not exceed this height. However, this year Dakar returned to Africa, and this restriction was also cancelled.

The T5 group cannot be considered an official participant group, and it belongs to the support truck group. The vehicles in this group are not for competition purposes and are only responsible for the transportation of team supplies between camps.

According to regulations, the registration fee for Dakar Automobile tribes is 12,000 euros per person, regardless of driver and pilot. The registration fee for participating vehicles is about 3,000 euros, and the registration fee for the support team is 10,000 euros per person.
