Chapter 100 The Crow is Singing(2/2)

The only way is to send people to fight out, attack from both the walls and the city, and kill all the people in the moat.

So no matter when, the city gates are the most powerful weapon for the defenders to counterattack.

But now, the Triangle Fort in front of the city gate is in the hands of the Venetta people.

When he saw a large armoured soldier fighting out of the city gate, the muskets and cannons on the Triangle Fort immediately turned around and attacked these enemies wearing heavy armor.

The two musketeers worked together to throw an iron shell bomb weighing more than 40 pounds into the city gate. The hit Monta Guardian suddenly burst out from his eyes and nose and died on the spot.

The other Monta guards around him saw the hissing leads and fled in panic. However, it was too late. A loud noise was loud and the iron bomb exploded. A wave of air almost pushed down the Venetta people on the Triangle Fort.

The remaining limbs were flying in the narrow space between the city gate and the Triangle Fort, and blood splashed everywhere. The Monta Guardian, who was not hit by shrapnel, also fell to the ground, spitting blood.

The city gate had turned into hell, but this was not over yet. The Venetta people on Triangle Fort dropped three iron shell bombs one after another.

The Monta soldier looked at the iron-shelled bomb in front of him, trying to crawl away his limbs but kept calling. He watched in despair as the bomb leads burned out,

"Lord forgive me!" He shouted like this at the last moment of his life, and then he was blown into pieces.

No one heard his "death repentance" because the "Da Vinetta" war cry overwhelmed all the sounds on the battlefield.

A large number of sword and shield hands shouted and rushed out of the Triangle Fort and the corridor. Venetta sword and shield hands divided into three groups. Two groups of people jumped into the corridor and began to fight with the Monta Guards. The other group of people ignored everything else and walked around Triangle Fort and headed straight for the city gate.

The two major generals prepared a total of six sword, shield and 100-man teams to guard against the defenders leaving the city to fight back.

"Close the city gate! Close the city gate!" William Kidd on the top of the city shouted in a hurry when he saw this scene.

The defenders at the city gate immediately cut off the cables, and the heavy gate suddenly fell down, trapping the Vinetta sword and shield hands who were rushing to the front.

In front of the city gate, a large bucket of asphalt poured down. There were still Monta guards who were not dead in front of the city gate, but the defenders could no longer control so many.

Several torches were thrown from above the city gate, and the Venettas ran away screaming and the asphalt was about to burn, and the defenders burned the Venettas and their own people to death.

On the other side of the gate, more than a dozen defenders went down from the city wall through the passage to the door hole. The trapped Vinetta sword and shield hand knew that they would die, and yelled and fought with the Tanirians.

The battle in the moat became equally tragic. The Taniria Council has always spared no money on the "Imperial Guards". The Montani Guards are equipped with three-quarters of the plate armor. The Venetta sword and shield hands are also equipped with half-body armor.

But the space was too narrow, almost fighting with people. Many swords, shields and Monta guards simply threw away their swords and axes, pulled out their short swords and stabbed them into the gaps in the armor, and under the ribs, such as those that were not defensive.

The soldiers behind pushed the soldiers in front and squeezed together, with nowhere to dodge. The only way to avoid the sharp knife stabbed by the enemy is to kill the enemy first.

Don Juan was behind the crowd, watching the clumsy fighting in front of him, and anxiously looked at the walls of the trench on both sides and shouted: "Go up! Go up! Go up! Go poke them! Take me up!"

The soldiers around him lifted the centurion up and carried it outside the trench.

Juan strode forward, rushed to the side of the Montane Guard, and pierced from outside the moat toward the Montane Guard's neck.

The Monta Guards in the moat found that their companions were stabbed to death and climbed out of the trench one after another. The 100-man team of Lieutenant Juan also rushed over at this moment, and the two sides began to fight with each other outside the trench.

Blood flows into a river inside and outside the moat, like a flesh and blood mill.

Winters, who was in the 200-meter-meter-appearing battle in the Flesh Mill, looked at everything that was happening in front of him, and his mouth was dry and his heart was pounding.

And beside Winters was Lieutenant Colonel Sebastian Vobon. Vobon ignored the tragic battle under the city wall and muttered to himself in confusion: "Why is it so strange..."

Vaubon and Winters are at the forefront of the gun position, and they are surrounded by one of the eight "headed wolf" heavy artillery guns.

The reason why Winters is here is very simple, it was Antonio who asked him to come.

"Sebastian Vaubon is a good siege tactic. It is always good for you to learn more from him."

That's what Antonio said, so Winters brought twenty soldiers to guard the cannons.

"Uh..." Winters asked in confusion, "Lieutenant Colonel, what's strange about you?"

The roar of cannons interrupted him, and another round of shooting.

After the shelling, the heavy artillery group quickly blocked the cannons with wooden fences, so that the defenders on the city wall could not threaten these powerful weapons.

Other gunners reloaded ammunition in a hurry.

The gunner first scraped out the remaining gunpowder that had not been burned out in the barrel with a long handle, and then stuffed the dipping mop into the barrel through the muzzle to clean the barrel.

The cannon body after firing is hot, and the remaining water in the cannon chamber will evaporate quickly and will not affect the next shot.

If the process fails, cleaning the barrel with water will cause internal cracks to increase, which will cause a blow-off. A poor-quality gun can only cool down with oil, but that will be very troublesome.

After the temperature of the cannon dropped, the gunners began to refille gunpowder, plug it tightly with plugs, then put it in a wooden bullet holder, and finally the shell was the shell.

After putting the shell in, the gunner used a rag to tighten the gap between the shell and the barrel.

Vaubon stopped the launch and adjusted the shooting angle of the artillery by himself.

After continuing to observe the landing point of the shell, Vobon suddenly realized and said to Winters excitedly: "I know what's going on..."

"Uh...what are you talking about?"

"I understand what the Tanirians have moved." Vobon slapped his thighs: "They piled up dirt behind the wall!"

"Pile soil? You mean..." Winters said with some uncertainty: "You mean to pile soil behind the city wall to absorb the impact of the shells? But this is not..."

"That's right! The effect of cannons bombarding the city wall is not as powerful as these heavy cannons." Staring closely at the direction of the city wall, Vobon analyzed: "I did several more test shots, and the conclusions are clearer every time. The Tanirians in the city must have increased the thickness of the city wall by piled up soil."

"But if soil is piled behind the city wall..." Recalling the content of the siege tactics course, Winters thought, "Once the city wall collapses, won't it collapse too? If it pours out of the city wall and turns into a gentle slope, it will make it more convenient for us to climb the city?"

"Yes, that's right." Vobon rubbed his nose, patted the cannon beside him, and said, "I don't know if William Kidd doesn't understand this? Or is he seeking medical treatment in a hurry? Or is he having other ideas? But no matter what, it seems that he really has to stick to the end..."

...

...

After several hours of fierce battle, both sides had no energy to continue fighting.

The city walls still stand, but large pieces of collapsed gaps and cracks indicate its destined future.

The Montane Guards who had left the city to fight back were almost all killed. Except for those who had not had time to attack, only a few people fled to the edge of the city wall and were pulled up by the defenders with ropes.

Three trenches were almost filled, at least they could no longer be an obstacle to the attack.

But the Venettas also paid a heavy price.

Nearly four hundred casualties were killed in the battle in just one day, exceeding the total number of deaths of the Venetta army on Chitio Island before that.

Moreover, most of the injured will die in the hospital beds in the next few days.

The fierce battle made the siege before today feel as relaxed as if it was on vacation.
