Chapter Twenty-Five: The Battle Begins

On the prairie in the early morning, Vlad was slowly advancing with his army. The Wallachian plain in April was still a bit cold.

In order to make it easier to get water, Vlad specially chose a route close to the water source. Under the urging of his allies, he slowly set foot on the road to join the armies.

The air was very humid, and there was a mist between the sky and the earth. The Wallachian officers and soldiers could only move forward by pulling the clothes of their comrades in front to ensure that they did not fall behind.

"Such a heavy fog is rare." Doral approached the Grand Duke and whispered,

Although Doral was servile to Vlad and tried his best to please him, he still had some abilities, otherwise he would not have been able to reach such a high position. The current situation made him feel vaguely uncomfortable.

Vlad looked around, frowned, and quickly issued an order,

"Send soldiers to investigate within a mile. Each soldier should not be more than five steps apart. We will tell you what the situation is."

A soldier was sent to the outermost area. The terrain here was a bit rugged, with one foot deep and one foot shallow, which made him a little dissatisfied. Suddenly, his eyes widened. There seemed to be a black line in the distance?

The sun gradually came out, the fog slowly dissipated, and the black line in the distance became clearer and clearer. Finally, the double-headed eagle flag was clearly revealed in the sun.

"Enemy attack!!!" The soldier believed that he had never shouted so loudly in his life. His voice passed through the soldiers and reached the Chinese army.

Vlad and Doral looked at each other, Doral reacted immediately and directly drove the soldiers into formation, while Vlad came to the place where the sound came from.

Looking at the double-headed eagle flag in the distance, Vlad instantly understood the identity of the other party. What made him curious was, how did the other party get here and no one knew?

But now is not the time to think about these things. Putting the chaotic thoughts out of his mind, Vlad was ready to seriously deal with the trouble in front of him.

He observed the Byzantines carefully. Even if they were enemies, he had to say that the Byzantine army was indeed well-equipped and marched well. It was just that the array arrangement was a bit unfamiliar, but he could see that this was the fault of the soldiers, not the commander.

,

This is normal. A large part of these people have just joined the empire. Many of them have even fought against the empire before. It is normal for them not to know the empire very well. Anyone will be a little panicked when experiencing huge changes.

"Stop", an order was given from the opposite side, and the army slowly stopped.

"Formation", the heavy infantry stands in the center, next to the light infantry, and next to the cavalry,

It is said to be heavy infantry, but in fact it means armor is added to the joints and face. Compared with light infantry, heavy infantry wearing armor all over the body is indeed more intimidating.

Emperor Constantine rode his horse to the front of the formation. Seeing this, Vlad also came to the front.

The emperor flattened his mouth and leaned forward slightly.

"Surrender, otherwise only death awaits you."

Vlad grinned,

"Give me freedom or give me death."

"Okay," Emperor Constantine sat up straight and said,

"You will pay for your arrogance."

After saying that, he rode his horse and passed in front of his formation,

"Kill the enemy!"

Vlad didn't talk nonsense and just asked Doral to get ready.

Emperor Constantine entered the Chinese army, and the two sides began a bloody battle.

The first to show off their power on the battlefield is the longbowman. In terms of range, neither muskets nor crossbows can compare with the longbow.

This bow foot is as tall as a man. Not only does it have a long range, it is also very powerful.

There was a burst of sound in the air, and a dark cloud seemed to flash out of the military formation, heading straight towards the enemy.

"Raise the shield", amidst a burst of orders, the large shields were raised one by one. The archers who had just fired the arrows hid under the shields. However, there were still a few unlucky ones who were a step too late and were shot through by the enemy's bows and arrows.

on the ground,

After one round of firing, the two sides did not shoot at each other again. Firstly, the lethality was limited, and secondly, it was a waste of resources. The outcome of the war was still based on close combat.

The soldiers in the front row were holding large shields, and the soldiers in the back row were holding spears. The two sides were approaching step by step. The eagle flag was hung on the cross, which looked very dazzling in the sun.

As the distance approached, the musketeers and crossbowmen stopped first, loaded ammunition, loaded the gun, and fired in one go. The enemy's pace was obviously disrupted.

At this point, their mission has been completed. No one expects them to go forward to fight anymore. The rest is left to the heavy infantry.

At this point, the gap between the two sides is obvious. Although the Byzantine army has less training time, it can still be seen that there is a collective consciousness. Usually two or three people fight the enemy together. The Wallachian army relies entirely on bravery.

Zhiqi, there is no formation at all when running, and the weapons in his hands are also various, such as spears, maces, two-handed axes, etc., which is dazzling.

Giovanni was also in the formation. He took the lead, leading a squadron to charge left and right among the enemy. No one dared to stop him.

By the end of the fight, the enemies were so frightened that they ran away one after another. For them, life was their own and victory belonged to the Duke. It was obvious how to choose.

Seeing that the situation was not good, Vlad also wanted to escape. Just as he got on the horse again, a joking voice sounded,

"Where does Grand Duke Vlad want to go?"

Vlad looked back in disbelief. Giovanni was holding the saddle, and behind him were Byzantine soldiers.

Vlad's whole body trembled,

"I am willing to surrender and serve Emperor Constantine."

Giovanni looked at him up and down, as if thinking about how to deal with him more appropriately. After a moment, he decided to let Emperor Constantine decide this matter.

"Your Majesty, we have captured Vlad." Giovanni first reported to the emperor respectfully.

"Let's go out and have a look." The emperor was not surprised at all. Twenty thousand versus five thousand, no matter how hard you fight, you can't lose.

The army is cleaning the battlefield, corpses are being burned, and wounded soldiers are being treated. There are too many things to do.

Vlad was waiting not far away. His long robe had been stained red with blood and was condensed into pieces.

Seeing the emperor coming, Vlad quickly lowered his head, put his hands together, and was about to kiss his hands.

"Lower." The emperor stretched out his hand, but put it lower.

Vlad was a little surprised, but he did not dare to neglect. He squatted down quickly, took the emperor's hand, and kissed it hard several times, as if this could calm his uneasy heart.

The emperor suddenly pulled out his riding crop and slapped Vlad hard on the face.

"Look at what you have done. Your subjects are as afraid of you as they are of poisonous snakes. Is this how you manage Wallachia for the empire?"

Vlad was terrified. He didn't know what his fate would be, so he could only show his obedience by saying nothing.

Turning his face slightly, the emperor said angrily: "Get up."

After hearing this, Vlad slowly raised his head and looked at Emperor Constantine,

"May your Majesty forgive me for my crimes, and I am willing to do anything to atone for them."

"Your crime is heinous," the emperor cursed first, and then said,

"For the sake of the Lord, you still rule Wallachia. Don't let me down this time."

The emperor's tone of hatred made Vlad feel a little regretful, but the humiliation soon took over his heart, but he decided to agree first.

"The Lord is amazed at your tolerance, Your Majesty."

Vlad lowered his head again to show his submission.
