Chapter 73: Escape from Cross(1/2)

The new captain's words caused a stir in the meeting hall, and all the nobles became angry and began to talk about this matter.

"Our Delanos family will fully support the City Guard, Captain Samuel," one of the nobles stood up excitedly and waved their fists hard, "Such a madman must be severely punished!"

"I agree!"

"I agree too!"

The voices of approval came one after another, and I could feel Hickrad getting nervous in an instant, so I gently patted his back, "Relax, Hill," I said in a voice that only he could hear, "These people don't know what we look like."

"I know," Hickrad replied in a low voice, "but I am still worried that it seems that the plague source church is very powerful in this city, once we are discovered..."

He didn't continue, but I knew what he meant.

"I understand what you mean," I took a deep breath, "Once we have more information, we will leave Cross immediately."

"Yeah." Hickrad nodded heavily.

Things have become very clear at this point. While everyone is still immersed in the discussion, I pulled Hickrad and quickly left the chamber through the side door.

"Now we know something very important," Hickrad and I walked along the street, and we were not wearing hoods or anything that covered our faces in order not to be suspicious. "This Samuel Dress must be the lackey of the plague."

"There is no doubt about that," said Hickrad, "what do you want to say, Saren?"

"I mean, he happens to be a good source of information."

"you mean……?"

Hickrad didn't finish his words, but his eyes became brighter and brighter, and he obviously understood what I meant.

"Aren't he waiting for someone to send him a clue, so we'll go to the military camp again."

"Good idea," Hickrad whispered, "but how do we retreat? You have to know that these city guards are no longer our friends."

"Let's take a step," I smiled bitterly, and frankly, I have no good idea. If these guards discover our behavior, there is no doubt that they will be arrested and jailed.

"No further," I patted my thighs gently, "We'll go to the barracks today and go in openly."

"I see."

After the discussion, Hickrad and I returned to Sword and Rose. The newly appointed captain of the City Guard would definitely not be able to return to the barracks so early. He still has a lot of nobles to deal with.

So Hickrad and I had a nice lunch first, "Tell me, our great poet," Billy asked curiously as he took our plates away, "Who became the new captain of the city guard?"

"Samuel Dress," I wiped my mouth and said leisurely, "he also issued a wanted order to capture the mastermind behind the murder of Captain Wells."

"Is it him..." Billy frowned. "I know him, and this guy is not very likable," he said. "He is always mysterious and never has a good face."

His words made me more sure of my judgment. Even if Samuel Dress is not a believer at the source of the plague, he is very suspicious.

"Thank you for lunch, Billy." Thinking of this, I had plans in my heart. I smiled at Billy first, then winked at Hickrad.

Hickrad nodded understandingly and followed me away from the bar.

"Are you going out to find out the news again?" Billy's curious voice came from behind.

"Yes," I smiled at him, "I'm very interested in this newly appointed captain of the City Guards," I said, "he will definitely be a good creative goal."

"Ah," Billy smiled knowingly, "Then I wish you all the best to see him."

After leaving the sword and the rose, I pulled Hickrad and returned to the gate of the barracks with ease.

When we arrived, the guards at the door were handing over, and some faces we had seen were replaced by some strange faces, and they entered the military camp with a chat and laughter.

This was a good opportunity. I nodded at Hickrad, and after the faces I had seen completely disappeared into the barracks, we walked towards the gate.

"Ahem," as soon as we crossed the street, the soldiers standing guard coughed violently and pointed the halberd in their hands at us, "Stop, what's the matter with you coming to the city guard's barracks!?"

"Good afternoon, lord," I immediately pretended to be afraid and greedy, and leaned against one of the soldiers. "The villain was fortunate to see the new captain of the guard taking office in the council this morning, and also saw the wanted order issued by lord Samuel. For this wanted order, I think I can provide some clues."

"Oh!?" A hint of joy flashed in the soldier's eyes, "Are you saying true?"

"Of course, of course," I nodded quickly and raised my left hand, "swear to the great Garcia that everything I say is true!"

"You can come in," he nodded in satisfaction, waved at me, and glanced at Hickrad again, "Is he your friend?"

"Yes, sir."

"Then come in together."

Under the leadership of this guard, Hickrad and I entered the city guard's camp for the second time.

"Did you see it, Sarah," Hickrad suddenly leaned into my ear and said, "When you said you had clues, the guard seemed very happy, and when you mentioned Garcia, he seemed a little uncomfortable."

"I saw, Hill, this guy is undoubtedly a plague source."

As far as I know, it is probably only these plague believers who hate Garcia, the god of life.

Under his leadership, we soon returned to the familiar building. "Captain Samuel is in the office on the second floor," he turned to us and said, "I'll go up and inform you first."

After saying that, he quickly walked upstairs, and soon waved at us again, signaling us to follow him to the second floor.

"This is Captain Samuel's office," he took us to stop at the door of a room, "tell all you know, and the City Guard will never be stingy with the reward."

Hickrad and I nodded expectantly, then pretended to be cautious and walked into Samuel's office.

"I heard that you have a murderer?" The tall Samuel Dress sat in her seat and looked at us expectantly, "Tell me, citizens, let me see what you know."

"Yes, sir," I bowed to Samuel, and took a deep breath, "What my friends and I want to tell you is..."

"We are the ones you are looking for."

After I said this, the time in the room seemed to have stopped for a moment.

I could see Samuel Dress's face changed from astonishment to disbelief and ecstasy, and finally turned into fear and anger. In just one second, his face changed like a kaleidoscope.

He seemed to have guessed something and stood up quickly from his seat. I saw his Adam's apple swaying, and obviously planned to ask for help.

But Hickrad and I were faster than him. Since we dared to come to the barracks to face him, how could we be unprepared?

Hickrad punched hard and slapped his Adam's apple.

The severe pain made Samuel shrink into a shrimp. His face looked painful, but he couldn't make any sound. Hickrad and I watched him fall to the ground and quickly controlled him.

"Help him up, we don't have much time," I said to Hickrad, and if we haven't been out for too long, the soldiers who sent us here before would have doubted it.

With the help of Hickrad, we quickly helped Samuel back to the chair.

"Flowing water," Hiccrad whispered the name of water, and a cheerful stream of water soon came, turning into a soft but tough rope, tied Samuel firmly to the chair.

"Okay," I walked up to him and slapped him twice in the face, "look up at us."

Samuel raised his head with difficulty, his eyes full of fear, "You are attacking the commander of the City Guard, and this is not a wise choice."

"Don't pretend in front of me, Samuel Dress," I said to him with a slight smile, "Since we're all here to find you, do you really think we don't know what you are?"

He glanced at us in disbelief, then swallowed, "What do you all know?"

Bang!

A crisp slap sounded, and Hiccrad withdrew his hand expressionlessly, "We know everything, you, the evil cultist at the source of the plague."

Hickrad's slap made Samuel's entire left face swollen. To our surprise, Samuel was not angry about it. The pleading look and fear in his eyes became stronger and stronger. I have no doubt that even if we untie him now, he would only kneel on the ground and beg for mercy.

"It looks like you are different from other cultists, right?" I squatted down with interest and made myself as tall as him. "You are different from the lunatics I have killed. I know you don't want to sacrifice your precious life for this stupid church. That's not worth it, right, don't deny it, I can read it from your eyes."

"What do you want?"

"So, Samuel Dress," I said, "I can assure you that as long as you tell us what we want to know, I will not kill you, and will also let the Vampire Slayer Guild protect you, what do you think?"

Samuel's eyes showed a hint of joy, and he looked at us and nodded vigorously.

"Then I ask you," I said, "what is the purpose of your church? Why do you penetrate the two cities on Grey Island?"

"For... base," Samuel said with a husky throat, "You know, Grey Kirishima is not a very important island, for the Republic of Strand."

"And it's...a trap."

"Train? What trap?"

"For your trap, vampire hunter," he said with a smirk, "the people here don't know that the vampires attacked them."

"What do you mean?" I suddenly felt a very bad feeling in my heart.

"Yes, yes," Samuel chuckled, "we also have companions in the aristocratic class, and they are the ones who post missions to the Vampire Hunter Guild."

"What about those hunters who came before?" I asked with some bad premonition and pulled his collar.

"Of course it's dead, hunter," Samuel said. "They didn't know what happened here, and the investigation was killed by the hands we had installed."

"Huh," I breathed out, "Where are those believers in the aristocratic class, do you know their names?"

"How much I wish I knew, hunter," he said gasping, "It's a pity that I don't know. Every mission is sent to me by a carrier pigeon."

"Do you know more, like the base you are in that jungle?"

"Ha, you've found this," he smiled bitterly, "You are indeed different from other hunters."

"Thank you for your praise, but we want to know more about that base."

"It's in the forest, but you still need a password to enter, the password is 'Silent autumn'."

"I've told you all that I know," after saying this, Samuel suddenly looked at us pleaded, "Can you let me go?"

"Of course," I nodded at him and gave a look at Hickrad, "I'll let my teammates unblock you."
