Chapter 13 Meat Grinder

"Stop them! Bring them back!" I waved the broken steel and chopped the two stormtrooper soldiers who rushed up to the ground. Behind them was a dense black ocean.

Gunshots like beans in the distance were heard one after another, and from time to time, crossbowmen fell down from the protective wall weakly. "Be careful!" Knight Sid knocked over two imperial soldiers surrounding him with his shoulders, and then ran behind me quickly, cutting down a stormtrooper soldier who was about to open fire at me with one sword.

"It feels very much..." I was about to thank me, but Xide rushed up and threw me to the ground, and a barrage flew over our heads.

"Where are our reinforcements?" He yelled in a hoarse voice as he pressed me.

"I don't know!" I rolled to the side, avoided the swords cut by the imperial soldiers, and responded to him with the same loud roar. Only in this way can our voices not be covered by gunfire.

"For the Empire, charge! Take this camp!" As soon as I got up, I heard the shouts of imperial officers from outside the camp, and then a trumpet sounded.

A large number of submachine guns in right-handed hands and long swords in left-handed hands, and imperial soldiers in plate armor rushed towards the camp under the inspiration of the horn, followed by a large number of fanatical soldiers holding explosive bags.

"Stop them!" I rushed to the gate of the camp, waved my sword, and tried my best to force all the imperial soldiers who rushed up. But there were too many soldiers in the empire. The spearmen at the gate were defeated by a gust of storm and retreated into the camp one after another.

"Damn it!" I gathered my divine power and fired a slash at the door. More than a dozen imperial soldiers who were rushing into the ground were blown up.

"Are you okay?" Sid found me, his armor was covered with smoke and dust, and it was obvious that he had experienced a hard battle.

"I'm fine," I punched him in the chest, "but the situation in our camp is not very good, the gate is lost, and the imperial soldiers are..."

"Master Knight!" A dirt-faced crossbow soldier ran to me and interrupted the conversation between me and Sid, "We must retreat! The gate is lost, and there are only less than two hundred brothers left in the camp!"

"Damn it, retreat!" I raised my sword and shouted in my greatest voice, "Retreat the wall!"

The remaining soldiers quickly retreated before the Imperial Army had completely poured in. Sid and I commanded them to re-arrange themselves at the foot of the city wall.

The good news is that the Empire temporarily stopped its offensive, and Sid and I sat under the walls and enjoyed this short rest.

A spearman in a chain mail ran towards us, the only senior sergeant left.

"Two sirs," he ran to us and saluted with exhaustion. "We only have one hundred and twenty-four people left, and everyone is in very bad condition."

"I understand, Sergeant." I sighed, "but we must block them." I stood up from the ground with broken steel, "at all costs."

"I am sorry that I am unable to commander, but there is a total of ten thousand troops opposite us and we only have..."

"Enough!" I pulled the broken steel out of the ground and interrupted him with a stern voice. "Do you think I don't know?" I waved the steel sword in my hand vigorously and pointed to the back of the wall of Ziggift, "But behind it is the land of the kingdom, the civilians, and the unarmed people!"

"Where is this side!" I shouted angrily and pointed to the camp that had just been captured. "It is the empire's 200,000 army! There is only this wall between them and those unarmed civilians!"

"Now," I grabbed his collar and lifted him up from the ground, "If you don't want your family to be smashed into the head by an Imperial soldier, go back and prepare to defend this wall."

The sergeant coughed a few times, saluted me, and ran back to the team.

"Are you serious, Saren?" Knight Sid frowned. "We all know that one hundred and twenty-four people cannot have a chance of winning against ten thousand people, let alone their morale is distorted."

"I know, Mr. Sid," I smiled bitterly, "Although I am the son of the Wandering Brigade, it does not mean I know nothing about military affairs." I inserted the broken steel back into the scabbard and walked towards the soldiers with Sid, "The problem is, do we have other options?"

He and I slowly walked into the team, "Our only life now is to stick to this place and believe that reinforcements will arrive soon."

"They are here!" A soldier suddenly raised his arms and shouted. We looked in the direction of his fingers and found that the imperial soldiers who had lined up were constantly coming out of the camp.

Then the disgusting horn sounded again, and the Imperial Charge launched a new round of charge towards the city walls.

"All the spearmen rushed up with me, don't let the explosive pack approach the city wall! The crossbowman fights back and stares at the rifle soldiers on the opposite side!" I held the broken steel tightly with one hand, opened a golden shield with the other hand, and rushed into the invading imperial soldiers.

This was the third time in my life that I felt powerless, the first time was Tracho sacrificing himself, and the second time was watching Sally disappear in front of me, I fought hard to kill the imperial soldiers rushing up, but there were always more, and they easily destroyed all the kingdom soldiers except me and Knight Sid.

The soldiers of the kingdom retreated step by step under the fierce offensive, and from time to time, people were shot several times and fell to the ground screaming.

"It's...dead..." I gritted my teeth and slashed another evil-breaking slash, blowing up more than a dozen unlucky imperial idiots, but soon twenty new guys rushed up and pulled the trigger at me with a passionate face.

I saw the sergeant being attacked by more than a dozen stormtroopers. The bulletproof shield that King Guo was proud of only helped him live for more than ten seconds. Then he fell down like a rag doll, with dense bullet holes on his body.

The situation on the battlefield slowly developed in a one-sided direction, but a pleasant and elegant trombone sounded in time.

A family heraldic flag and a kingdom battle flag were raised behind the city wall. A large number of soldiers holding daggers and round shields quickly emerged from the gap in the city wall and fought with the nearby Empire Stormtroopers.

"I'm glad to see you are safe, Knight Cid, Sir Lancelot." A knight in heavy armor rushed into us on a war horse. He saw the soldiers who rushed up with a sword, and then turned over and dismounted, opening his armor, "I am Sir Gwyn."

More and more round shield warriors rushed out of the gap. Some round shield warriors were ruthlessly knocked down by bullets on the way to charge, but more people rushed into the ranks of imperial soldiers like whirlwinds, forcing them to put down their submachine guns, draw out their long swords and start fighting hand-to-hand.

"I'm glad to see you, Sir Gwyn," I walked up and opened my face armor, "I've never seen these warriors, are they?" I asked curiously, pointing to the round shield warriors fighting with the Imperial soldiers.

"The Kingdom's regular army, Warrior Lando," Sir Gwyn smiled. "Sir Galahad sent me back to his heartland to ask for the regular army as soon as he noticed the abnormal movement of the Empire. To be honest, I was worried for a moment whether I would not catch up," he said this and patted his chest, "Fortunately, I caught up."

"Now," Sir Gwyn turned over and rode his war horse, pointing his sword in his hand towards the camp ahead, "Charge! We must take back this camp!"

The imperial soldiers who rushed to the city wall were soon defeated by the short sword and round shield of the Rando warrior. They lost their guns and were nothing. With a desolate sound of trumpets, the only small group of imperial soldiers quickly retreated back to the camp.

The gate of the camp was slowly closed against the wall, and Sir Gwyn was not in a hurry to launch an attack. A large number of Rando warriors passed through the wall under his command and were ready in front of the camp, followed by a large number of spearmen, crossbowmen and four huge catapults.

"I brought 20,000 people," Sir Gwyn's eyes showed a killing intention, "Let the Empire try it."

"Attack the whole army!" Knight Gwen's long sword swung forward, and the Rando warriors shouted and launched a charge. The short sword in their hands kept hitting the round shield. The soldiers next to the catapult cart pulled the ropes suddenly, and four huge rocks roared into the camp.

"Now, are the two knights interested in fighting with me and let these empire scum know the power of the kingdom knights?" Gwin sent us an invitation.

"I'm very happy!" Sid and I nodded, turned over and rode on our own war horse, raised our sword and rushed forward with Sir Gwyn.

The not-too-high guard wall in the camp could not stop the Rando warriors. They skillfully climbed up the guard wall under the cover of crossbow arrows and fought with the imperial soldiers on the wall. Without the threat of deadly firepower on the wall, the spearmen quickly rushed to the front of the camp gate.

As a huge rock fell from the sky, the simple door made of wood was smashed into pieces without any suspense. The spearmen and the Rando warriors who had been waiting for a long time rushed in and fought with the imperial soldiers in the camp.

I rode my war horse through the camp gate, and there were broken bodies everywhere. The originally dark brown camp walls and gates were stained with large areas of red, including the blood of the imperial people, and ours.

The camp was in chaos, and the Imperial Army completely gave up its intention to shoot. All the riflesmen were equipped with bayonets and fought with Rando warriors or pikemen. The wooden barracks and tents burned violently under the attack of rockets, and the guard wall was even more terrible by the catapult.

"Ah" Several empire rifle soldiers were hit by a huge rock, and they lost their voice after making a short scream.

"For the Empire!" An Imperial Rifle soldier held up the rifle in his hand and rushed towards me with red eyes, but the next second, five short swords hit him at the same time. A hook sickle swept over his head, and the headless corpse walked forward a few steps and slowly fell to the ground.

Before the kingdom soldiers could be happy, a group of imperial soldiers rushed out of secretly. They threw themselves over the kingdom soldiers like wild animals and bit them madly with their teeth.

I drove my horse up and slashed my sword to kill these crazy imperial soldiers, but it was too late. Two Randol warriors were bitten off their throats alive, and their throats were exposed to the air.

I sighed, squatted down and closed the eyes of the boss they stared at.

Even though we had the advantage of numbers, the battle was fought from morning to dusk. The camp had already turned into ruins under the bombardment of catapults. Sid and I shuttled across the battlefield, harvesting every visible imperial life, or lending a helping hand to friendly soldiers.

My heart has long become numb under this fierce battle. I don’t know how many soldiers I killed, how many terrifying corpses I saw, how many unwilling eyes closed. The only thing I remember is that when the moon rose to mid-air, the sound of desolate horns sounded, and the soldiers of the Empire quickly retreated from the camp, leaving behind thick layers of corpses that were stacked and difficult to separate.

Side and I stood at the foot of the city wall, overlooking this meat grinder-like battlefield. There were still thick smoke emitting in many places. It was a large group of charred corpses.

Sir Gwyn walked towards us slowly, "The battlefield has been cleaned up," he opened his armor and sighed heavily, "We have lost more than five thousand people, and the empire has lost more than seven thousand."

"The fairy is above!" Xide showed a horrified expression, "This is simply a meat grinder."

"Who said no," Sir Gwyn nodded in agreement, "they don't seem to have intended to give up. I also sent a messenger to request reinforcements. In a few days, another fierce battle may be made."

"Who knows," I shrugged, "May the fairies in the lake bless us."

"May the fairies in the lake bless us."

I took a last look at the devastated battlefield and returned to the newly built camp behind the city wall.

"We need to plan." Sir Gwyn led us into the largest tent, which has been transformed into a simple command. "We need to build fortifications, the wounded need care, and we need to detect the enemy's movements."

"But the problem is," he looked at us, "it's impossible for me to handle everything at the same time, so I need your help."

He picked up a quill, drew an arc in front of the city wall, drew a large circle in the camp of the empire, and finally drew a cross behind the city wall.

"I can be responsible for the establishment of fortifications," he wrote his name beside the arc, "Where are you?"

"I'll go and investigate." I picked up a quill and wrote my name next to the Empire Camp.

"Then I'll go and take care of the wounded." Knight Sid shrugged, took the quill I handed him, and wrote his name on it.

"Very good," Sir Gwyn clapped his hands, "We will start to act on our own tomorrow. Gentlemen, remember that time is the key." After he said this, he turned to look at me, "I'm very sorry, I'm not targeting you, Sir Lancelot, but I feel it's necessary to tell you the key points of the investigation."

He raised his left hand and made a fist. "First," he stretched out a finger, "You have to figure out their number, which can be judged by the size of the fire, second," he stretched out his second finger, "I want you to watch out for new division flags or brigade flags, which means reinforcements from the enemy."

"Do you understand?"

I nodded. "Very good," Gwyn signaled us to get out of the tent, "Now, gentlemen, it's time for a rest."

"Especially you, Sir Lancelot," he cast a concerned look at me, "I don't want you to have any accident tomorrow."

I nodded and got into my tent. The camp quickly became quiet. The lights in the tent went out one by one. I took off my armor and took the key points that Sir Gwyn told me, and then blew out the oil lamp in the tent, and fell into a short but comfortable dream.
