Chapter 29 Street Defenders

After walking in, I realized that this dwarf city was larger than it looked from the outside.

The smooth stone streets are lined with equally smooth stone buildings. Occasionally, you can see some buildings made of metal. When you look closer, you will find that they are indeed very magnificent, more than twice as large as the book says.

There are many crystal lamps hanging on the walls of these buildings near the streets, emitting a stable blue-blue light. I guess this is a special energy source in the underground world, which was used by dwarves as energy sources and lighting tools.

I walked slowly forward, obsessed with watching everything around me, which is something you can hardly see and learn in academy, in the army, or in an adventure.

There is a maroon-red flag hanging on many towers, with a mortar hammer in the middle of the flag. I recognize that icon, and it is introduced in every book about the dwarf. This flag is the flag of the last dwarf dynasty of the First Age, the Curotalo dynasty.

This is very useful historical information, which to some extent illustrates the city's active period. If I make the information about this ruins public, those dwarf experts will go crazy.

I walked to a stone building and gently pushed the ornate metal door. As I expected, the door was locked tightly. I had to continue walking forward.

At every intersection of the street, there will be orange-yellow lights, and the steam street lights that keep spitting white air. In addition, the crystal lights on the building, I will call those wall lights that emit blue and blue lights. This city is actually very bright.

In this case, the fireball above my head affected my vision, so I waved my hand and dispersed the fireball.

The only strange thing is that the streets are still extremely quiet, and the constant sound of gear rotation and the accent of steam hammers falling not only does not destroy this feeling of silence, but makes it more obvious.

"Everything is closer," I was a little uneasy, and turned around and ordered the soldiers who also extinguished the torches and let everyone lean together.

If there is really any danger, we will not be defeated by each one.

"What are we going to come down to look for, sir?" Joseph ran to me as usual and asked in confusion.

"All tools are still available, Joseph." I turned my head and looked at him. The young kingdom man's face was still full of confusion. It was not his fault. If he were a soldier serving in the empire, he would know how precious such a ruin was.

"The dwarves are not just the mystery of the First Age, Joseph," I turned my head and looked at him gently, thinking about how to say it would not hurt his self-esteem. "This is a...a very creative race, and many of their inventions can support our battle to a great extent."

"Also," I pointed to the fortress in the distance, "the dwarfs often have no one way to the ground, do you understand? If we can clean up the city and use it as a stronghold, we will be able to attack everywhere flexibly."

Joseph nodded suddenly, held the rifle in his hand, and didn't say anything, but led the soldiers behind me.

I continued walking for a while before I realized what I had always felt wrong along the way. This city is too clean.

I do not mean that the streets are too clean or the buildings are spotless, but that there is no dwarf corpse or something left from the First Age on the street.

Walking in from the city gate to the present, all I saw were the shiny streets, and there was no dwarf's corpse or weathered wreckage.

Looking at this situation, I remembered a book I once read at the Bard Academy: "The Mystery of the Disappearance of the Dwarf".

This is a book that is not very famous or even notorious in the dwarf academic community. The author believes that the dwarf did not perish because of fighting with other races, but suddenly disappeared at a certain point in time.

This statement has never been very popular in academia, but judging from what I have seen, it is very likely that this statement is a real situation, or at least a small part of the real situation.

I took a deep breath and continued to walk forward. In fact, from the time I came in, the soldiers and I were still exploring in the outer city and exploring this from the height of the building.

I continued to move forward, and a series of heavy objects fell to the ground suddenly sounded at this moment, followed by the sound of mechanical operation. Unlike the sound of urging city operation, the sound came from a distant place. The sound was as close as if it was behind me.

"All warning!" I remembered the automatic defense mechanism of the dwarf mentioned in the book. The hairs behind me suddenly stood up, and a chill ran straight from my spine to my head.

The sound of steam spitting came from me with a sound of some mechanical movement, and each sound was clearer and closer than the last time. I held the broken steel, and the soldiers behind me raised the submachine gun, and everyone looked at the intersection not far away with vigilance.

A tall robot similar to a human form revealed its figure from behind the building on the left side of the intersection. Its whole body is made of steel. The lever-driven legs make a dull sound every time they step on the ground. The square box behind them constantly spews out white steam.

Rectangular protective steel plates were installed on most parts of its body, and the left hand was cast into a giant brass-colored crossbow. From the long magazine inserted into the giant crossbow and the small steam engine attached to it, it can be seen that it is not easy to mess with. In the right hand, it is more accurate to hold a giant hammer. It is better to say that it is welded a giant hammer than to weld it.

It walked to us with a slow pace. The power crystal on its chest emitted a blue-blue light, and its head, which was carved into a human-like shape, turned flexibly and looked at me.

"Street defender, number sd-1077813, detected non-dwarf lives, activated the defense system, and asked the intruder to leave immediately within one minute, otherwise violent measures will be taken." An emotionless voice came from it, one of its legs took a step back, and the giant crossbow in its hand slowly raised and pointed at us.

"Damn it," I heard Joseph shouting from behind, "maybe we should find another way, sir."

I nodded and quickly retreated with the soldiers. Unfortunately, the street defenders followed step by step, as if it would not leave until we left the city.

"I hate this smart canned iron. What should we do now?" I heard Joseph say hatefully beside me, and I couldn't help but smile bitterly.

"You guys go out and I'll deal with it," I said without doubt, and quickly added to Joseph's face: "This is an order, execute it immediately!"

Joseph gritted his teeth hard and looked at me a few times, "Come back alive, sir." He said this and quickly retreated along the way he came.

I watched them leave, and then slowly walked back to the street defenders, looking at it with some anger, "I thought the dwarf's robot wasn't that smart."

It did not respond to me, but looked at me with the pair of blue-blue eyes on the mechanical head, "Warning, detect the retreat stop, countdown starts again, and you have fifty seconds to leave."

The answer was a flame energy arrow that I had just emitted from my hand. The sharp arrow hit its armor, but only a small hole was pierced, and the subsequent explosion of flames was almost ineffective.

"Oh, it's so miserable now." I murmured to myself as I looked at the almost intact street defenders.

"A flame-type attack was detected, with a strength of one, and it was determined to be a malicious act, the countdown was terminated, and violent means were activated." The street defender said a last sentence. The core and eyes that had originally emitted a blue-blue light turned red, and a large amount of steam suddenly ejected from behind. The giant hammer in his right hand suddenly swept towards me under the energy provided by the steam engine.

The robot is four meters high, which means that the hammer is not a size that ordinary people can use.

I watched the giant hammer that was coming quickly under the steam. The dwarf hammer weighing at least ten kilograms raised a huge storm. Although the hammer had not yet swung to me, the sword wind had already made my exposed skin hurt.

It's not a joke to be hit by such a big hammer. I don't want to use my life to test whether the rune shield and divine power shield can block this hammer that can smash me into meat paste.

In desperation, I had to fly over and pounce on the left. Unfortunately, while wearing armor, I couldn't maintain balance in the air at all, and I fell heavily to the ground.

The giant hammer of the street defender fell heavily on the stone ground. The thick hammer head smashed a large piece of ground with the power brought by the steam engine as soon as it touched the ground. Large pieces of gravel collapsed from where the giant hammer fell, and smoke and dust spread out with huge shock waves.

"Swish" the pipes on the arm of the street defender and the steam engine on the back made a huge noise again, and the white air spurted out wildly. Its right hand slowly raised, leaving an ugly pit in the place where it hit.

Seeing me running away for a distance, it lowered its right hand and turned to lift the giant crossbow in its left hand. As the sound of steam sounded again, a series of crossbow arrows as big as spears hit me.

"Fairy protection, this is so terrifying." As soon as I got up, I saw a series of spears shooting at me. It would be too late to avoid it. In desperation, I had to use the Holy Shield Technique to save my life.

The magic power in my body disappeared in an instant, and a tight golden shield quickly wrapped me. I looked at this layer of shield and looked at the spear-level crossbow arrows that were shooting at me quickly. I was still very nervous. This shield, which was known as invincible, shattered last time due to a huge energy turbulence. I don’t know if it can block such a huge crossbow arrow with extremely huge kinetic energy under steam.

Fortunately, this kinetic energy was not as powerful as the energy turbulence. The giant crossbow arrows shot my shield one after another, and then broke into pieces in front of me. I stood there, not even a trace of impact.

While the holy shield was still there, I raised the broken steel in my hand and rushed towards the street defenders. Most of its body was made of steel. I don’t believe that the holy sword, known as broken steel, could not cut it.

As I bullied it, the huge robot obviously became clumsy. It was equipped with a hydraulic rod on its arm. Its arm could not bend well. I watched it bend its arm back with difficulty, jumping up and slashing at its left hand with a sword.

Duangang is indeed well-known. This holy sword that I used most of the time to release magic and boost morale finally showed the same power as its name. The left hand made of street defenders, and the steel plate used for protection, was easily cut open by me with one sword, and the whole left hand fell to the ground with a bang.

"Warning, when the hostile target is detected, the body is damaged by more than 10%, the protective countermeasures are activated." As one of its hands was cut off by me, the mechanical voice that had not sounded for a long time sounded again. I stood under it and saw many small spouts popping up on the surface of its body.

I looked at the nozzles, then looked at the small steam engine that kept spraying steam to dissipate heat from its back, and suddenly had a bad premonition in my heart.

"As a rainbow!" Before the nozzle was fully opened, I blessed myself with a rainbow and stayed away from its side as fast as possible.

"Swish" With the long sound of steam, all the spouts on the street defenders' bodies began to spray hot white steam outwards, and the white steel fuselage suddenly disappeared in the thick steam.

I looked at the steam that was so heavy that it wrapped around the entire defender, and patted my chest with some fear. Fortunately, I ran fast, otherwise I might have become a roasted suckling pig in an iron can.

The steam injection lasted for more than twenty seconds before I heard the sound of the mechanism being retracted.

"The heat dissipation is completed, the crisis is resolved, and the attack continues." The annoying mechanical sound rang again, followed by the spurt of steam, and a giant warhammer that hit me.

"I have never hated the sound of steam engines so much! wund!" I yelled in anger, releasing a large number of ice rune arrows.

"Don't you need heat dissipation? Try this!" I looked at the defender who hit the ground with a hammer, and waved his hand, and ice arrows shot at it one after another.

"Sher" the ice arrow shot on its pipe, leaving a small pit and then quickly melted into a pool of water. Most of them flowed down the pipe, and a small part penetrated through the gap at the junction of the pipe.

What happens if the ice arrows that are not even zero degrees hit on the scorching steam pipe? As I thought, after being shot by the ice arrows, there were signs of cracking in many places in the defenders, especially the hydraulic pipes and steam delivery pipes.

"Warning, it was detected that the temperature outside the body was too low, and many pipes were damaged, and it needed to be repaired immediately." The mechanical sound rang again, but it was more rapid than the previous few times, and the fuselage began to flash red light continuously.

"Hahahaha," I laughed happily, and once again gathered a group of ice arrows, "This is called a rapid drop in temperature, you idiot!"

The second batch of ice arrows quickly hit the defender's body, and the ice arrows with too low temperature melted rapidly again, at the cost of many pipes on the defender's body completely cracked, and white steam kept spraying out.

"Warning, the steam pipe of the right arm is completely damaged, the right arm loses function, the left arm is detected...Error, the left arm is missing, warning, the body temperature exceeds the safe temperature of seventy degrees, warning, more than one hundred degrees, warning, the body is about to explode, please stay away immediately."

I watched the defender standing not far away, his head twitching from time to time. The steel fuselage, which was originally filled with power and beauty, broke everywhere, spewing hot steam outwards, and radiating amazing heat outwards frantically. But this was useless in the end. The defender whose heat dissipation structure was severely damaged finally exploded in a blast. A small number of the fuselage fragments burst out quickly, and most of them turned into pieces of steel and fell on the charred ground.

"Good design," I walked to the pile of steel and remembered with some emotion, "It's just a little stupid."

The defender's giant hammer in his right hand was too clumsy, but the giant steam crossbow in his left hand was really lethal. I watched as half of the magic disappeared from my body, and kicked its wreckage with some angrily. If it weren't for the Holy Shield Technique, I would have been chained up by the crossbow arrows long ago.

This made me even more grateful for the decision I made before. The consequences of Joseph and his team were to fight this thing were a massacre. They were either strung into a bunch of human flesh or smashed into meat paste by hammers.

Of course, it is also possible to be boiled directly by steam.

The question is whether to go deeper today.

I hesitated a little. With my current knight level, the Holy Shield can only be released once a day, which means that if I encounter street defenders again, I am likely to be in danger of life. I guess a robot like Lozkazri will definitely not be missing. The number is 1077813!

If viewed from the worst point of view, it means it has 1077,812 similarities, and more!

But there was an imperial division outside eyeing me. I don't think Reza was so kind that he gave up chasing us, or just pretended to be at the foot of the mountain. He must be waiting for stronger assistance to get my troops all in one place.

In this case, it is impossible for me to spend too long exploring the city. Every time I find something, I have an extra chance of winning in the final battle with Resa, so a quick battle is my only choice.

After thinking about it for a while, I decided to return to the camp today and continue to explore the time in the future tomorrow. I will not be able to catch up on this day. I also have to recover some mana.

Of course, it will be enough for me to come down alone tomorrow, and I don’t want any unexpected losses here.

But before leaving, I have to bring some good things back, such as the giant steam crossbow, which is a weapon that can continuously shoot spear-sized crossbow arrows.

I looked around and found the most complete left hand covered by a pile of fragments and cut off by me. Broken steel unsheathed again and easily separated the whole steam crossbow from my arms. I just wanted this part.

I inserted the broken steel back to my waist, and struggled to carry the steam crossbow, which was as big as the city defense giant crossbow, and walked back in the direction I came.

The elevator that came down soon appeared in front of me. I panted and placed the giant crossbow in the center of the elevator, and then pressed the upward button of the elevator.

As the lift slowly rose, I finally looked at the brightly lit Lozkaz. It was still standing there, waiting for all visitors coming from the outside. With expectations for this city, I returned to the middle of the soldiers with a giant crossbow.
