Chapter 27 The Young Commissioner

Cathedral of the Divine Prayer, Brooklyn, New York.

Under the dim golden light, four tall angels held babies in their arms, and candles of varying brightness were neatly displayed. The bells rang at night, and several believers wearing white clothes and red cannons walked back and forth.

It was late at night, and few people came to the church to pray at this time. But under the huge oil painting of the Virgin Mary, there was still a young woman closing her eyes in silence piously.

Her belly was swollen. It was obvious that she had been pregnant for some time and was probably close to giving birth, and her movements were very inconvenient. One of the believers in the church stepped forward and said, "Madam, maybe you need some advice from the priest?"

The young woman opened her eyes, her beautiful face was diminished by the sadness in her eyes, and her golden hair also looked haggard and dull. She slowly looked towards the opening room located at the far side of the cathedral, a small brown wooden

The room looked like a phone booth, with the curtain half-covered so you couldn't see who was inside.

The purpose of the young woman's coming here tonight was also to confess, but she was so pious as she was standing in front of the church just now. She looked at the young believer in front of her who suggested that she go to confession, "Is Father Gary here? I'm here for him.

.”

"Of course." The believer smiled, "You are here by chance. Tonight is Father Gary's confession time."

Of course, he didn't know that the young woman's inquiry was just to cover up his own clear purpose, so he naturally regarded her as a devout believer who happened to be troubled.

The young woman nodded and walked to the confession room under the leadership of the other party. The believer opened the red curtain for her and smiled to indicate that she could go in.

She entered the confession room, and because of her bloated body she could only kneel down slowly, make the sign of the cross, and then said softly: "Please bless me, priest. I, a sinner, am willing to repent in the church."

Just three seconds later, a charming deep voice sounded from the booth of the confessional: "May the Holy Spirit illuminate your heart, enable you to sincerely confess your sins, and accept the grace of the merciful Heavenly Father."

After this established process, "Father Gary" in the cubicle changed to a more friendly tone, like a familiar friend, "Child, what is troubling you?"

The young woman looked embarrassed, glanced at her belly, and opened her mouth several times but didn't say anything.

"My child, you are not confessing your sins to me, but to God. Not only will you not be forgiven if you conceal your sins, but your sin will be even greater." In the compartment, Father Gary's face could be seen vaguely through the gauze.

Although he spoke sacred words, his tone was gentle.

"I have committed the sin of uncleanness and done unclean things." The young woman said in shame, her hands involuntarily touching her belly.

"What exactly is it?" Father Gary asked.

"I...my baby is about to be born."

"Oh? This is a great thing, isn't it? He will become a devout believer like his mother and be blessed by God..."

"But I am convinced that he is not the fruit of the union between me and my current husband..." The young woman interrupted the priest, blushing with embarrassment and trembling slightly, as if what she just said had exhausted all her courage.

Father Gary was silent for more than ten seconds.

"Father...my sin is too great, and maybe God cannot forgive me." The young woman's eyes revealed despair.

"He will." Father Gary suddenly said, still in his calm and gentle tone, "How about we talk about other things, how soon will the child be born?"

The young woman was stunned for a moment, but she thought this was the priest's way of diverting her nervous and depressed emotions. After pondering for a while, she said, "The due date is half a month from now. I slipped out of the hospital today. I shouldn't have run around, but I...

It’s so sad. I feel sorry for my husband and my soon-to-be-born child..."

"Which hospital? I know some obstetricians and gynecologists. Maybe I can help."

"...Holy Cross Second Hospital." The young woman hesitated, "Father Gary, you... are strange, but it does make me feel at ease. Is this your unique way of confession?"

"Maybe I'm a real priest." Gary said with a smile.

Father Gary opened the door and threw the black seminarian robe he was wearing heavily on the sofa. "All unclean women deserve to die!" He then panted and sat down, his handsome face almost distorted.

He is a very young priest with devout faith and good conduct. He is highly praised and respected in Brooklyn. Although priests must swear celibacy and dedicate themselves to the Lord, many passers-by who are not believers often see him at the Cathedral of the Holy Prayer.

Everyone will admire his handsome appearance.

"Gary?" A slightly hoarse but obviously bright female voice came from the bedroom.

Gary raised his head suddenly and walked to the door, "Why haven't you left yet?"

The door opened, and a white woman with a pale face but unable to conceal her beauty stood in front of Gary. The room behind her was filled with a stench. Gary glanced at it slightly and showed an expression of disgust, "Penello

Pu, do you have to disgust me like this?"

"I didn't, I just..." The woman named Penelope looked panicked and suddenly stretched out her hand to pull the corner of Gary's clothes, but he knocked it away mercilessly.

"You make me feel dirty." Gary looked at her coldly, without the gentle look he had in the church confessional, "Get out of here."

Then, without waiting for Penelope to answer, he directly grabbed her arm. The huge strength gap between men and women allowed him to easily pull the other side to slide on the floor, and forcefully pulled Penelope to the door, "

Don't come to me again, do you understand? I hate women like you!"

With that said, Gary opened the door and was about to push her out.

Suddenly, he and Penelope were stunned and looked outside the door. Two boys with obviously Asian faces were standing there. One of them had longer hair and softer facial lines and was about to knock on the door, "You...

How are you?"

The two boys watched Gary pulling Penelope's hand, whose skin had turned red from him.

"Who are you?" Gary frowned. These two people were completely unfamiliar faces.

"We moved next door today," another expressionless boy said in fluent English. "The landlady said she would come to visit you anyway, Father Gary."

Gary thought thoughtfully: "Mrs. Irene rented out the house again? I remember that the last tenant only rented it for less than three months."

"Mrs. Eileen?" The boy who was about to knock on the door smiled and said, "We rented a house from Mrs. Chloe. Did you remember her name incorrectly?"

Gary looked at them calmly for a while, then suddenly smiled and appeared very apologetic: "I'm sorry, I confused her name with someone from my church. Yes, it's Mrs. Chloe. I have a relationship with her.

Yes, it's normal for her to ask you to visit me. I'm Gary, what do you call me?"

"You can call me 'Xia'." The smiling boy said, and then pointed to the cold young man behind him, "His name is 'Chu', we are from China."

"Come to study?" Gary asked with a smile.

"That's right. Brooklyn College of the City University of New York." Xia handed over two student ID cards, and Gary took them gently, glanced at the information and photos on them casually, and returned them.

Gary seemed to have no doubts about the two of them anymore. He exchanged a few more pleasantries, asked the landlord, Mrs. Chloe, about her physical condition, and then closed the door. Even Penelope, who was obviously about to push out, pulled back.

Closed the door.

In the corridor of the apartment, two boys came to the next room, took out the keys, opened it and went in.

"Commissioner Xia Xian, you just pretended to be very proficient." Chu Zihang said when Xia Xian walked into the room and immediately found a sofa to lie down on.

"Don't call me Commissioner, I'm here to assist you this time." Xia Xian said helplessly.

"You heard on the way here that the person who arranged for you this time was not Professor Manstein, but... Principal Angers." Chu Zihang also sat down on the sofa, "He is very optimistic about you, you haven't considered it yet.
