Chapter 628 Persuasion

"Steven." After Lin Qingxia told Spielberg that the Eight Hundred Warriors and Yang Huimin, she had already stood aside and followed Qiao Feng, who was so fascinated by the listening experience, suddenly said, "Steven, since you are so interested in that historical fact, I wonder if you are willing to shoot a film related to it to let the people of the world know that this historical fact carries too much sorrow for the Chinese people?"

"Oh, Mr. Qiao, of course I would be willing if I had the chance." Spielberg looked at Qiao Feng and said.

"only..."

"Just what?" Qiao Feng asked hurriedly when he saw Spielberg's face turned awkward.

“Miss Lin has already acted, and I’m not used to repeating things that others have filmed.” Spielberg explained: “And, I have a story about the Holocaust in my hand and I’m looking for someone to direct, and I don’t have much time.”

The Jewish Holocaust?

Qiao Feng's heart moved. He seemed to know which story Spielberg was talking about. If there were no surprises, it would be very famous. Perhaps it was the most famous movie about the Jewish Holocaust, Schindler's list.

Schindler's list is adapted from real stories. It tells the story of a German named Schindler who lost all his money and saved thousands of Jews during World War II.

As far as Qiao Feng knows, Schindler's original novel was published a few years ago in 1982. As soon as the original time and space was published, the copyright was bought by Theonborg and handed over to Steven Spielberg, hoping that he would direct the movie one day.

But Spielberg was worried that he would not be able to tell the story fairly because he was a Jew and he was afraid that he would immerse himself in too many subjective emotions.

Then Spielberg found Martin Scorsese, who was also a great director, but Martin Scorsese refused because he also had his own concerns and believed that he could not do the job well like a Jewish director.

Later, Spielberg approached Roman Polansky again, but the director wanted by the United States for having sex with 13-year-old Samantha Gaimer and committing sexual harassment of a girl was also rejected.

It’s not because he couldn’t enter the United States, nor because he felt that the story was not good, but because he thought he was not ready to shoot a video of such a theme.

Because Roman Polansky experienced the Jewish Holocaust with a sacrificial life, when he was a child, it happened to be the time when the Jews in World War II were genocidal. When he escaped on the day of the liquidation, he had lived in the Krakow Jewish Quarter until he was 8 years old. Later, his mother died in the Auschwitz concentration camp.

Because the theme is too personal and his childhood experience makes him feel that he is not ready to face this subject so far, Roman Polansky also refused. However, ten years later, Roman Polansky finally prepared and shot a pianist who also filmed a classic movie about the Holocaust.

Spielberg also looked for Billy Wilder, but was also rejected because the two Oscar winners said that he had retired long ago and had to live a retirement life after retirement, and he was determined not to come out again.

So, if Qiao Feng guessed well, Schindler's list so far is still preparing to find a director, and what Spielberg said was the excuse he found.

However, even so, Qiao Feng cannot point it out, otherwise it will not only embarrass each other, but also cut off the possibility of Spielberg directing it.

"Steven, what I want to ask you to direct is not the incident of Eight Hundred Warriors, but another story." Qiao Feng did not entangle with whether there is time, but was preparing to use the story to impress Spielberg.

"Oh, another story?" Spielberg showed an interesting expression again.

"Yes, another story." Qiao Feng nodded and said with a heavy expression: "During World War II, our China was invaded by Japan, and Japan committed heinous crimes on the land of China. The story of the eight hundred heroes that Miss Lin just said was just the beginning of the crimes committed by Japan on the land of China."

"The beginning?" Spielberg raised his eyebrows in surprise.

"That's right, it's just the beginning." Qiao Feng nodded and continued: 'After the Battle of Shanghai, the National Government chose to retreat. Soon, the capital of China, Nanjing, fell, and the Japanese army that occupied Nanjing launched an inhumane massacre in Nanjing. How many 300,000 or even more innocent people and soldiers who put down their weapons were massacred and women were raped. Those Japanese people never let go of babies."

"Mr. Qiao, are all the truths you said?" Although we know some of the massacres of Japan in China, the fact that 300,000 innocent people, women and children in a city were massacred and raped, Spielberg was extremely shocked and unbelievable.

"Of course, the Nanjing Massacre left a lot of historical materials, many of which were foreigners. The reporter saw and experienced it in Nanjing with his own eyes, and the story I told was her personal experience recorded by an American friend in her diary." Qiao Feng nodded.

"Who is this American still alive?" Spielberg asked seriously.

What a Chinese person says is completely different from what an American person says. Chinese people may add many personal opinions and judgments due to subjective factors, but if an American who is not a Chinese citizen, what he says will definitely be more fairer than what the Chinese say, which is inevitable.

"I'm gone, this American friend committed suicide in the apartment in 1941 due to severe depression." Qiao Feng shook his head and said, "I wonder if you have heard of Weiterin's diary?"

"I haven't heard it." Spielberg thought about it carefully and found that he had no impression of the name.

"Weiterin's diary is the diary written by an American friend I mentioned, which records her personal experience at that time. Minnie Weiterin is the American friend I mentioned, China Minghuaqun, she is an American missionary.

In 1919, Weitlin applied for the Jinling Women's University in Nanjing, China to take charge of school affairs, prepare for the construction of a new campus, and encouraged students to go out of the ivory tower, devote themselves to society, and serve poor neighbors. For example, he taught hygiene knowledge for neighbor women, and twice a week to treat poor people around the campus, and carried forward the motto of Jin Girl's University - the spirit of morality and prosperity.

Weitlin also used her vacation to study in Europe and the United States, and promoted adult education in Denmark and the Netherlands to China, which made an indelible contribution to Chinese women's education.

Starting from August 12, 1937 to April 1940, Weiterin insisted on writing diaries almost every day and mailed them to American friends regularly every month so that they could better understand the current affairs of China. Friends in the United States at that time thought Weiterin's diary was very valuable, so they sent it to "Students" in Cincinnati, Ohio for publication. In the past two years, people found the original manuscript of Weiterin's diary when sorting out the archives of missionaries.
