Chapter 186
I recently saw this saying: You must at least get the same thing as material and spiritual things.
It feels quite reasonable.
From the perspective of materialism, at least there must be material. From the perspective of idealism, at least there must be spiritual. If neither material nor spirit, you will really feel that life is like a void with no meaning.
Some people living in the world pay attention to material things and work hard for the material things; some pay attention to spiritual things and can stay away from the noisy city to find the meaning of peace in their hearts.
What matters and spirit are more important? In fact, this is not very comparable, after all, it varies from person to person.
The motivation for everyone's heart is different. Some are matter. With matter, there is everything, such as money; some are spirit, everything can be lost, but the most important things in the spiritual level cannot be lost, such as love. Some are matter and spirit. With matter but no spirit, there will be no spirit. With spirit but no matter, there will be no soul, such as feeling.
A sentimentist like me who respects feelings first requires that matter and spirit be balanced. Oh no, it should be that spirit is a little more than matter. And for me, the existence of these two things is just for my feelings. My feelings are right, okay, then these two things are meaningful.
At the corresponding material level, my mental level must also be improved in time according to the improvement of material level, and will neither exceed the material level nor accumulate below the material level. For example, when my income is only 1,000 yuan, I will only buy a few books to read; when my income reaches 2,000 yuan, I will give myself a small trip; when my income reaches 3,000 yuan, I will buy myself a bicycle and go for a ride when I have time; when my income reaches 4,000 yuan, I will buy myself an electronic piano to learn to play and enjoy my mood; when my income reaches 5,000 yuan, I will...
In other words, the economic foundation determines the superstructure. I will adjust my spiritual level of enjoyment based on my material level. When I should enjoy it, I will enjoy it. When I should save, I will save. And this degree depends entirely on my feelings.
Because I feel that I prefer more spiritual levels, material (such as money) will not stay with me for too long, unless one day someone comes into my life to manage material things for me.
I spend the most time on the spiritual level and the most fulfilling, so the spiritual field is constantly developing and strengthening.
Perhaps, I first gained the spirit in both matter and spirit. As for matter, I need to spend more time struggling. No matter how good it is, at least I have got one of the two.
It feels a bit like a sentence in "Romance of the Three Kingdoms": "If you miss the dragon and the phoenix chicks, you will be able to have one of them, and you will be at peace with the world."
At this time, I felt a little emotional: I once wrote something with the heart of learning to write novels, but who knew that as I wrote something, it turned into writing memoirs, as I wrote memoirs, as I wrote memoirs, as I wrote memoirs, as I wrote weekly diaries, as I wrote weekly diaries, and as I wrote diaries, it turned into writing experience. Well, it was a transformation with "talentedness".
If two people get one, they can be at peace with the world.
I have the spirit and can stabilize my mind.
Recently I am also reading a book called "Jingjing". In this book, I have seen a word that is very fresh to me - half-life.
Half-life was originally a concept in physics, which refers to the time it takes for half of the nuclei to decay in radioactive elements. The shorter the half-life, the faster the decay; the longer the half-life, the slower the decay. Later, many other disciplines also followed the concept of half-life.
That book links the word "half-life" to life. In life, we often only focus on the immediate benefits that one thing brings to us when it happens, and ignores whether this benefit can continue and produce long-term effects.
For example, when playing games, the pleasure brought by playing games is incomparable to many other things, but once you stop, this pleasure will fade quickly, so some people will continue to play in order to seek this strong sense of pleasure again. Therefore, for most people, playing games is a high return value and a short half-life event.
And so on, most things in life, study and work can be measured from these two perspectives, and we can obtain four types of events composed of these two angles:
High return value, long half-life events: find true love; learn an effective thinking technique, etc.
High yield value, short half-life event: play the game for an afternoon; buy a piece of clothing that is popular this season, etc.
Low return value, long half-life events: practice calligraphy for one hour; repeat a set of skills to practice, etc.
Low yield value, short half-life events: aimlessly browsing Weibo and WeChat; using social software to peek at strangers' privacy, etc.
Think about it, I seem to do more short half-life events, that is, for temporary happiness, and consume more time to do long half-life events.
But people are very strange. They obviously don’t know that that is wrong, but sometimes they still do it. They clearly said that they would correct it, but after a while, they still say it; they know that it is impossible to do it.
So, looking at the explanation of "half-life", although I understand, I don't have much trouble in my heart.
Later, when I saw the explanation of long-half-life events in the book, I felt it!
The benefits of long half-life can be accumulated and superimposed. Even if the visible benefits of each event are minimal, as long as its half-life is long enough, this benefit can be passed on and become a small cornerstone for future success. For example, memorizing a word and memorizing a word may be forgotten in a few days, but when you memorize the word again in a few days, the foundation left by the first action is still there, which can reduce the difficulty of you memorizing it again.
It feels like this is in the same direction as my motto “Nothing is in vain.” So, I like it very much!
Just like, although I don’t draw every day now, the drawing skills that I have accumulated and implicitly improved in the process of drawing still exist. Therefore, even if I draw once a month, I feel that there can still be progress, although the progress is minimal.
The book also mentions a "imperfect execution", which means that I know that this matter is important, but I just don't do it. For the majority of "procrastin patients", the more important a thing seems, the greater the fear in my heart, the easier it is to delay, and nothing will be achieved in the end.
This is also very common for me. During the time abroad, every time I planned to draw, I would have been struggling for a long time and didn’t know which painting to draw. In fact, I was afraid that I would not draw well and would feel bad. The more I did this, the more I would not be willing to start writing. Therefore, there were many nights that I had originally promised to draw, but I didn’t draw a single painting.
The book says that you should try to do as little as possible with "short half-life". This rule implies two meanings:
1. The level of the return value does not matter. As long as it is not a short half-life matter, as long as the return can be accumulated, just do it.
2. Don’t just focus on those "high-end" things. Some unimportant and non-urgent things can still be done as long as they are beneficial to you in the long term.
For some reason, after reading it, I always felt very sweet. It seemed that I was doing "long-term life".
Perhaps, it’s just because “long half-life” is so similar to my motto! My motto feels like meeting “people among fellow men”!
Well, nothing is in vain. (To be continued)
