Chapter 508: Hoi'an Tang Street

The attack on the Imperial City of Hue was a shocking event in Annan. As the ships of the Northern Navy were mooring outside the Hue Harbor for longer and longer, the relevant news was like wings, spreading rapidly along the post road to Guangzhi and Guangnan Prefectures on all parts of Chengtian Prefecture and on both sides of the north and south.

Just four days after the Hue Imperial City was shelled, in Hoi'an City, more than 200 miles away from Hue, a group of Chinese merchants from Zhejiang, Fujian and Guangdong left their homes and gathered at the Foreign Chamber of Commerce on the banks of the Qiushang River.

Starting from the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, with the rise of Hoi'an Port, Chinese businessmen on the southeastern coast of China set off a climax of trade in Vietnam, which also led to the formation of the Chinese community in Hoi'an. By the mid-17th century, the Chinese group on the "Da Tang Street" of Hoi'an had a large scale. Among them were the merchants from Fujian, Guangdong and Zhejiang who went south to make gold, as well as the Ming Dynasty survivors who went south to take refuge during the Ming and Qing dynasties.

In the early years, the largest number of Chinese and islanders were Chinese. After the Tokugawa shogunate promulgated the maritime ban, Japanese towns in various parts of the Southeast Asian country declined rapidly, while the number of Chinese merchants coming to Hoi'an trade increased day by day, and the scale of the Tang Dynasty also expanded.

In the early 18th century, Annan had two major trading ports, namely Xiannan on the northern Honghe Port and Hoi'an on the southern part. Its prosperity was even Hue, which was the capital. However, since the Xishan Uprising, the commercial environment in both places was severely damaged and was no longer in its past.

Fifteen years ago, the Zheng army and the Xishan Army fought a war in Jinsha, twenty miles north of Hoi'an. After that, Hoi'an changed hands several times between the old Ruan, Zheng's family and the new Ruan, and suffered from war. At present, many houses in Hoi'an City were newly built after the establishment of the Xishan Dynasty, but broken walls and ruins can still be seen in the streets and alleys, as well as places to live with straw and bamboo.

As the rain was drizzling, the bluestone courtyard in front of the Tianhou Palace in the guild was cleaned up spotlessly, like a large mirror, reflecting the surrounding flowers and trees.

In the meeting hall in the east wing of the courtyard, a businessman from Fuzhou took out a small white flat box with a text pattern from his arms. After opening it, he took out a match from it, and then stroked the red match head on the black strip on the side of the box. With a "click", the match immediately caught.

"Everyone, this is a thing made by Beihai Town. It is called a match. It is very convenient to draw fire in an instant. The current price in Jiangnan is 1,200 yuan per box, each box of 100 pieces."

"Wow~~" The eyes of Hainan merchants and Guangdong merchants in the conference hall fell to the ground, and they stood up and looked around carefully. Several local Chinese engaged in marine trade business were even more curious. In an instant, the people in the room were talking in Fujian and Guangdong dialects and talking.

"Brother Lin, you have had a Sangyi with Beihai Town?"

"It's a shame for the Communist Party (you're joking), why did Lin have that way? This was bought in "Huang Shengtai" in Shanghai County, and it was just for freshness. It is said that the dignitaries and nobles in the capital use this item to make fire, and no one has used the flint scythe."

"This thing is so tied, it's so expensive!"

"Type it! 12 cents a piece of money, this is not a way to cause fire, it's just a burning money!"

Another businessman from Guangzhou whispered mysteriously: "You guys don't know. Chai heard from the Thirteen-way people that this thing is very popular among Westerners. If you sell it to Europa, you can at least five silver dollars in a box."

God! Several local Fujian merchants from Huian opened their mouths wide, thinking that if they bought hundreds of dozen boxes of them and sold them to local Flangers and Dutch people, they would have bought some rice and wood! If they could be shipped to Hoi'an on half, they would be sold for a lot of money.

"Mr. Lin once heard that since the court lost Ningguta and other places last year, Beihai Town has controlled most of the ginseng goods outside the pass. Now Fujian and Guangdong ginseng goods are scarce, if we can get in touch with it..."

An old man interrupted, "Brother Lin, be careful! Although we make a living by sea trade, not everyone can touch it. The Beihai was a rebellion of the court and he had a military force last year. Now they attacked Hue and became a great enemy with the Ruan Dynasty. If they were to look for them at this time, once they were caught by the government, they would probably have a life-threatening disaster."

"It's so dependent, what Mr. Yu said is very dependent! I heard rumors that the leader of Beihai Town was from the Ming Dynasty and was said to be a descendant of King Zhao."

A Guangdong businessman said in surprise: "Ah, isn't that my Huizhou?"

"Oh? Brother Wang tell us quickly."

"I want to be rough..."

The speaker is unintentional, and the listener is intentional. In the evening, the discussions of merchants in the foreign chambers of commerce were soon spread to the ears of two groups of people by those who are interested.

Needless to say, the local governments in Hoi'an immediately sorted out the rumors about Beihai Town and sent people to Hue. However, for another group of local people, the rumors about Beihai Town were like bolts from the blue.

"What did you say? The descendants of King Zhao?!"

In the back house of a business called "Lianchang Ji" on Datang Street, an old man in his fifties was stunned when he heard his son's words. He stood up for a moment, hurriedly left the flower hall, and let the family sitting at the dining table waiting for dinner stare at the big and small eyes, not understanding.

The old man walked to his dormitory, opened a camphor wood box, and took out a wooden box from the bottom. He put the wooden box on the table in front of the window, and after opening it, he uncovered the layers of yellow satin wrapped around it, and finally revealed a gorgeous and exquisite golden hairpin.

The head of the hairpin is a hollow golden phoenix, which is stacked layer by layer by threading. The golden silk on the abdomen, wings and tail of the phoenix are more suitable for fine and complicated matters. The head and neck are beaten with thin pieces of gold. Even the auspicious cloud under the feet is also stacked with gold pieces to hollow out, which looks extremely elegant and luxurious.

Although this golden hairpin has become a little black because it has been stored for too long and does not look so golden, the workmanship is unique in the world and does not reduce luxury.

"Father, what's wrong with you?" The old man's youngest son Ye Chengxiang pushed the door and walked in. Seeing that his father didn't even care about food, he couldn't help but feel a little worried, so he came over to see what was going on.

"Cheng Xiang, sit down. Dad has something to say to you." The old man wiped the corners of his eyes with his sleeves, and then said in a deep voice: "Do you know why our Ye family has taken root in Hui'an?"

Ye Cheng said that he had just mentioned a few words at the dinner table. Why did his father ask about this again? However, he still said seriously: "My father said before that during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Emperor Gaozu was unwilling to serve in the Qing Dynasty, and he was afraid that the Qing court would harm him. This allowed his great-grandfather to travel south with his family and settle in Hoi'an in order to ensure the safety of his descendants."

"Oh, that's just what your great-grandfather said back then when he was afraid of causing trouble for his family. I've told your elder brother before, but he... Alas, now you are over the top, so you should tell you the old thing as a father."

Ye Chengxiang felt that what his father was going to say might have something to do with the King Zhao of Beihai Town mentioned earlier. As expected, the old things his father told him were frightened and sighed. However, what surprised him even more was the true identity of the owner of the tomb in the family cemetery.

The old man said something for a long time and was a little tired. He took a sip of tea and pointed to the wooden box on the table and said, "You can arrange it tomorrow and take this to Chengtian Mansion."

Ye Chengxiang's eyes were fixed and he said in surprise: "Father, are you going to ask your son to find someone from Beihai Town? But what if King Zhao is fake?"

The old man thought for a while and shook his head and said, "Since the Qing Dynasty entered the pass, I have heard of the banner of "Prince Zhu San" that I pretended to be King Zhao and was a royal family of a vassal king. What did he want?"

"My Ye family helped him keep the secret that he had been kept for more than a hundred years, and now it should be an explanation." The old man turned his resentment on Gu Jing Wubo's face and looked at Ye Chengxiang and said, "For eight years, who has no relatives to die in Jiading in this shop in the Tang Dynasty? I can't control others, but your elder brother's family cannot die in vain. If you don't take this revenge, I, Ye Zhanrong, face the ancestors of the Ye family without any face!"

Outside the window, the rain was getting denser, and the cool breeze from the river blew the bamboo in the yard swaying.

Speaking of which, after Ruan Wenhe and Xingquan returned to Taishi Pei Dexuan that day, Pei Dexuan and other civil and military ministers were very angry by the aggressive words of the North Navy.

At this time, the Xishan Mountain faced south and rejected the Qing Dynasty in the north, and they were all extremely crazy. After experiencing the initial panic, they slowly woke up. No matter how big the ships in Beihai Town were or how fierce the cannons were, there would always be a time to get all the shells out? So, should we send troops to the shore in the next step?

According to what Ruan Wenming and Xingquan saw and heard on the Thunder God, Pei Dexuan learned that the North Navy's troops were all tall and mostly had a northern accent. After learning about this situation, Pei Dexuan was even less anxious.

"Hmph, I, Annan, have always been a smoky place. The northerners often only have four or five of them. I will waste my time with you and see who can't stand it first!"

Since General Fubo's southern expedition to the brigade, what restricted the Central Plains dynasty's governance of the southwestern border and large-scale military operations were never a problem of soldiers and officials, but a miasma that made people feel terrified. Not only would people get sick from miasma, but even horses would get sick and die.

Previously, Sun Shiyi led his troops to fight in the autumn and winter seasons, because the miasma disappeared in the border areas. In the Qing-Myanmar War, infectious diseases caused by the incompatibility of the local environment and miasma were the main reasons for the war-weariness of the Qing army in the late Qing army.

Although miasma in all directions in the south occurs after the Qingming Festival and is collected after the Frost Descent Festival, the miasma in southern Annan is different from other places. It can be said that it is endless all seasons, especially in winter and spring is the most powerful.

Most places with miasma are filled with mountains and trees, with sparse trees, rain and sun, and the climate is humid and hot. Many rivers and streams are either green or red.

Pei Dexuan relied on this. He and other civil and military officials of the Xishan Dynasty agreed that as long as the North Navy dared to land and fight, the Xishan Army would retreat all the way west and lure the enemy into deep. The opponent would definitely lose due to the problem of water, soil and miasma, and his side could seize the opportunity and turn defeat into victory.

However, what Pei Dexuan didn't know was that the Qing Dynasty could not cope with miasma, but the Beihai Army was clear! On the way south before, Hong Tao and his medical team members repeatedly emphasized to everyone that they were absolutely not allowed to drink raw water after they got ashore and were absolutely not allowed to eat raw and cold food. Violators would be deemed to be violating military discipline.

Isn’t it just a mosquito-induced malaria parasite infection? That’s not a problem. Hong Tao’s biggest “magic weapon” for this trip south is artemisinin. Of course, he has also prepared a lot of quinine, chloroquine, and pyrimethamine.

Although the soldiers cannot reach the shore these days and the boat is quite hot, there is an ice machine on the Thor, so it is no problem to cool down. If someone eats a stomachache because of greed for coldness, a few anti-inflammatory drugs or anti-diarrhea drugs will be done.

Two days later, because Xishan Dynasty did not agree to the conditions of the Northern Navy, Deng Fei ordered the two D30s on the Thunder God to continue shelling the Hue Imperial City. With the cooperation of the drone, one after another explosion caused Ruan Guangping's palace to mess up, and the various temples turned into ruins, and even the outer walls of the Imperial City were blown up a lot.

At the same time, Beihai No. 1 and No. 2 also approached the Huekou - later the Huekou, with the intention of passing through the Haikou and entering the lagoon between the seawall and the land.

At this moment, a small fishing boat suddenly drove out of the lagoon and was stopped by the speedboat sent by Beihai No. 1 to investigate. The people on the boat claimed to be Tangren from Hoi'an, surnamed Ye, who was in his early twenties and brought two subordinates with him. The man repeatedly stated that he had a major secret about Prince Zhao and asked to meet with the commander and general of the North Sea Army.

Deng Fei, Wang Yuanfang and Hong Tao both felt very funny when they learned about it, and thought to themselves that the biggest secret of "Prince Zhao" was that he was a Xibei product. However, given that the young man named Ye begged, the three of them became more curious, so they asked Haiping to send the person over.

Two hours later, Ye Chengxiang, who was repeatedly searched, sat in the conference room of the Thor, and looked around curiously. Soon, the door opened, and a thin man in a white coat, glasses, and a white-faced and beardless walked in, followed by two guards.

Ye Chengxiang hurriedly stood up, saw the other party smiling and said, "Hello, my surname is Hong, what do you call me?"

Ye Chengxiang hurriedly bowed to the ground and bowed, "The villain Ye Chengxiang, whose courtesy name is Zhifang, is from Huizhou, Guangdong. His family ancestors came here from Guangdong in the fourth year of Yongli. They now live in Datang Street, Huian."

"Datang Street? What's that place?" Hong Tao then asked the other party to sit down and talk, and asked someone to bring a glass of water.

After Ye Chengxiang briefly introduced the Tang Dynasty Street, Hong Tao blurted out: "Oh, Chinatown."

Ye Chengxiang was stunned for a moment and said, "Sir, it's right to say that."

After the gossip was finished, Hong Tao went straight to the topic: "What's the matter with us?"

"I wonder if King Zhao is here? The villain is here to pay a visit to King Zhao this time."

Hong Tao shook his head slightly and said, "I haven't come. Just tell me if you have anything."
