Chapter 5: Retiring

Murong Hao, who was chopping firewood on the mountain, had no idea that something serious had happened to his family. Instead, he took Murong Qi to the hillside behind him, one of whom was chopping wood, and the other with a small basket digging for wild vegetables.

After Murong Hao finished chopping a bundle of firewood, he looked up at the sky and saw that it was still early and not yet noon, so he put down the woodcutter in his hand, looked at his brother who was not far away, and walked over.

"Xiao Qi, are you tired? You take a rest first, and brother will go dig." Murong Hao knelt down and wiped his sweat for him, then asked him to sit in the shade of a tree aside, and he picked up the small basket in his hand.

Murong Qi spent a long time digging and only managed to dig out half a small basket.

"Brother, Xiao Qi is not tired." Murong Qi refused to go and continued looking for wild vegetables with a wooden stick.

When Murong Hao saw him like this, he didn't force himself and hurried forward to find wild vegetables with him.

With the addition of Murong Hao, the search for wild vegetables went much faster, and it was already noon before I knew it.

Seeing that the basket was full, Murong Hao looked up at the sky and shouted to Murong Qi who was not far away, "Xiao Qi, it's enough if we don't dig anymore. Let's go back to eat, otherwise my sister should be in a hurry."

"Oh! Okay, come here after digging this one." Murong Qi, who happened to see a wild vegetable, dug out the wild vegetable neatly, then walked step by step in the direction of Murong Hao with his short legs.

"Brother, look, how big is this wild vegetable?" Murong Qi raised his head and said to Murong Hao, holding up the wild vegetable in his hand like a treasure.

Murong Hao smiled when he saw his cute appearance, touched his little head and said to him with a smile.

"Haha! Xiaoqi is awesome. He dug such a big wild vegetable. I will reward you with more when I go back."

"Hehe!" Hearing the compliment, the little guy was very happy.

"Let's go home, otherwise sister will be in a hurry." After saying that, she took his hand and walked towards the direction where the firewood was put.

Murong Qi smiled and replied, "Okay, Xiao Qi also wants to show my sister the wild vegetables I dug."

Murong Hao smiled and said "Okay"

:::::::::::

When the Murong Hao brothers returned home and did not see Murong Yue, they knew that they must be working at Murong's house.

Murong Hao did not dare to look for her, because Zhao would ask his brother and sister to help with work from time to time. Sometimes they would not be able to come back at noon, and they would not be given food to eat.

One time when the farm was busy, Mrs. Zhao came to ask Murong Yue to help with housework. When Murong Hao saw that his sister had a bad look on her face and refused to let her go, Mrs. Zhao scolded her bloody. Mrs. Zhao still resented the separation of the family at that time.

Things happened, and Murong Yue was dragged away.

After noon, Murong Hao helped harvest the rice all morning and came back for lunch. After waiting for a long time, he didn't see his sister coming back, so he went to look for her. He saw his sister chopping pigweed and wanted her to go back and eat.

Come back later.

As a result, Mrs. Zhao beat and scolded him and drove him out, and threatened that if he dared to come again, Murong Yue would not be allowed to eat dinner.

After that, Murong Hao didn't dare to pick up Murong Yue. Although Murong Hao felt sorry for his sister, he was afraid that his sister would have a reputation of being unfilial, so he had to endure it.

In the past, Murong Hao's father and mother did all the work in the Murong family's fields. The uncle's family lived in the town and rarely came back.

As for the third uncle, Mrs. Zhao was even more unwilling to let him go to the ground.

Therefore, after the family separation, the Zhao family still used Murong Hao as a coolie.

If he disobeys, he will be scolded for being unfilial. If the family is divided, he will not care about the life and death of his grandparents.

After hearing this, Murong Hao had no choice but to agree with red eyes.

When Murong Yue went to help with the harvest for the first time, seeing how hard her brother was working, Murong Yue brought him water. However, she was seen by Mrs. Zhao. As soon as she returned home, Mrs. Zhao called Murong Yue over, "Girl Yue, you are so idle, your uncle."

Auntie is not free to come back, so why don't you come and help with some housework?"

The original owner was weak and easy to bully, so she left without resisting. As a result, her leaving became an excuse for Zhao to ask her to do things from time to time.

It means that one person is too busy to handle it. No matter how much he says that he is their biological mother, even if the family is separated, he is still a relative and so on! Sometimes Murong Hao tells Murong Yue not to go, and then goes around saying that Murong Yue is unfilial and has separated the family.

He doesn’t even want his own breast milk.

In ancient times, people who were unfilial would be scolded for being unfilial, and the original owner was a quiet and submissive person who would lower his head and dare not say a word even when scolded. Murong Hao couldn't resist Zhao's scoundrels, so he could only lower his head in hatred.

My head, I dare not tell Murong Yue to leave again.

Murong Qi was too young, and Zhao saw that he could not do much work, so he was not called to help with the work.

Every time the brother and sister went to the old house, they would entrust him to Aunt Li next door to take care of him, and then pick him up when they came back in the evening.

Or Murong Hao would go to the mountains to cut firewood, take him with him, and let him dig some wild vegetables around. The family had no fields or land, so they could only go to the mountains to dig some wild vegetables to eat.

:::::::::::

The Murong Hao brothers waited until evening to have dinner before Murong Yue came back with her head lowered.

As soon as Murong Qi saw her entering the house, he softly shouted, "Sister is back."

He ran up to her and hugged her feet. He raised his head and looked at her and said, "Sister, you are back. Xiaoqi today..."

Before Murong Qi finished speaking, Murong Yue pulled away the little hand holding her, and without looking at him, he lowered his head and ran to his room.

"Brother, come on, my sister was beaten by grandma again." When Xiao Qi saw her sister running back to the room with her head lowered, she knew that she must have been beaten, because it was like this every time grandma hit her.

Murong Hao heard the sound and walked out of the kitchen, grabbed Xiao Qi who ran over and walked quickly to Murong Yue's room.

"Xiaoyue, come out quickly and let me take a look." Murong Hao knocked on the door and shouted to the people inside.

The two of them knocked for a long time and the person inside still refused to open the door.

So Murong Hao was afraid that something would happen to her, so he wanted to knock on the door.

After two bumps, it didn't open, but Murong Yue inside opened the door.

As soon as Murong Yue opened the door, she hugged Murong Hao, her forehead lowered to his chest, her shoulders twitching, obviously she was still crying.

"Brother" Murong Yue shouted softly with a cry full of grievance.

Seeing how sad she was, Murong Hao put his arm around her shoulders gently and said, "Brother is here. Tell me what's going on. Did grandma hit you again?"

"Sister, don't cry. When Xiaoqi grows up, I will protect you and prevent grandma from beating you again." Murong Qi stepped forward and hugged Murong Yue's feet. Seeing her sister crying, her eyes were red.

"Brother, I was disowned by the Chen family. What should I do in the future? Woohoo..." She cried even harder when she thought about being disowned by the Chen family and being criticized by others in the future.

"What?" Murong Hao's eyes widened in disbelief.

"The Chen family dared to break off the engagement, and grandma agreed?" Murong Hao pulled Murong Yue away and looked at her and said.

"Grandma didn't agree. Later, my eldest aunt asked me to marry Sister Xue'er instead. The scholar lady agreed, and grandma no longer objected. What should I do?" Murong Yue looked at her brother with red eyes and tears.

"I'm going to find grandma," Murong Hao said and turned around and ran out.

"Brother, Xiao Qi is going too." Murong Qi jumped out and ran out, but his legs were too short and he couldn't catch up with Murong Hao no matter how hard he chased.

"Xiao Qi is staying with sister at home," Murong Hao said without looking back, and ran away.

:::::::::::::

Murong Yue and Murong Qi waited and waited, and finally saw Murong Hao coming back half an hour later.

Murong Yue ran up to him and held his hand and asked him expectantly, "Brother, how are you? Has grandma regretted it?"

When Murong Hao saw his sister looking at him so expectantly, he squatted down with a face full of pain and punched the ground. The ground was mud with some small gravels on it.

As soon as he hit it, the place where he hit it immediately started to bleed. This shows how much force he used?

"My brother is useless, he can't even keep his sister's marriage." He hated himself, hated that he was so useless as a man, and hated that he couldn't resist the people in his old house.

He punched the ground one after another to vent the hatred in his heart. At only fifteen years old, he suffered more than he should have endured.

Seeing him in such a hurry, Murong Yue knelt down and hugged his arm, crying and saying, "Brother, don't be like this. I don't want this marriage anymore, so I'll give it to Sister Xue'er. At worst, I can find another one in the future. Don't do it again."

I hurt myself, ugh~"

Murong Qi was also holding his other hand and crying "brother, sister"

When Murong Hao saw them crying so sadly, he pulled them into his arms and closed his eyes. Two lines of clear tears flowed down the moment he closed his eyes.

The three of them just hugged each other quietly. After they calmed down, Murong Hao let go of them and wiped their tears and said, "Let's go, let's go eat first."

After saying that, he took the two of them by the hand and walked toward the kitchen.

By this time, the sky had completely darkened, and Murong Hao asked them to light the only oil lamp in the main room that was rarely used.

He himself went into the kitchen and picked up the wild vegetable soup that he had made before, the fried wild vegetables, and three cornmeal steamed buns.
