Some notes on the setting of Bihaiguo
Novels can be empty, but the materials must be realistic.
This is my writing principle.
In "Blue Sea Storm and Clouds", the construction and setting of its national system is a bit strange in "Blue Sea" and may make readers feel illusory or even unrealistic. Let's take a look at what prototypes are there in these seemingly illusory national settings.
First of all, the business alliance is a country.
This is actually not uncommon in history, but there are few cases of Eastern countries. In fact, in ancient Western business-based republics, from Carthage to Milan, Venice, Genoa, and Florence on the Apennine Peninsula, these are commercial republics. They also maintained stability and prosperity for a long time. Therefore, there were many regimes, but they were not limited to coming out of guns, nor were they limited to defending territory by force. In the above commercial republics, the war between them more refers to business wars, such as fighting for trade strongholds and sending commercial spies to each other. Therefore, there is a precedent for the establishment of the Bihai Kingdom as the United Nations.
Secondly, the empress is in power.
This has been seen more in history. Even in today's society, there are still famous empresses. Of course, they are all in Western countries, with few Eastern countries, and the concept of male superiority and female inferiority is not so easy to change in the East. Although the empresses now no longer have real power, it is more of a symbol, but the deeds left by the powerful empresses in history are everywhere, so I will not elaborate them here.
Third, kill the father and keep the daughter.
Some readers have seen it before that it was taken from the allusion of Emperor Wu of Han who killed Mrs. Gouge. Yes, the rule of killing the prince-consort in the Bihai Kingdom only reversed the gender. So is it necessary to do this? As the author, I think it is very necessary. The specific reason is mentioned in the book. Just imagine that a woman in the court can shake the court with her son's identity as a king. So what if she is a man? His daughter is the king of a country, and he is an impeccable talent. Will such a person make the previous generation of monarchs feel at ease when considering the transfer of power? Therefore, despite being ruthless, the prince-consort must die, and the reason for death is more sufficient than that of Mrs. Gouge.
Fourth, do not pay attention to national defense.
In the first volume of the novel, it mentioned that there were no soldiers in the Bihai Kingdom. This is just a general statement, not absolute. Just imagine, it is impossible that there are not even soldiers guarding the gate in the imperial city. So this means that there are very few soldiers in the Bihai Kingdom. When the second generation of Ming emperor quelled the rebellion, they only used 8,000 soldiers, and they were pieced together from Baisha Camp and southern border prefectures and counties.
But this does not mean that such a big country does not pay attention to national defense. There is a reason why the number of soldiers in Bihai Country is short. First of all, men in this country are very short-lived, which determines that Bihai Country cannot have many soldiers. Men have to plow the fields, fish, and do business. They can only live forty or fifty years old. Can they still be exiled? So Bihai Country is purely no one. In history, many countries have no problems in their development and national defense, but they have gradually weakened because of the population decrease. The commercial republics mentioned above are examples. If a country has no one, then everything will be useless. Isn’t Japan trying to find ways to build various robots now? That’s the reason.
Secondly, Zhu Yuxiao said, "Bihai Kingdom has three parts of land and seven parts of water." Most of the territory of a country is sea area, so it is destined to not pay so much attention to land defense. We must have devoted our strength to sea defense. And we also saw in the novel that the shipbuilding industry of the Bihai Kingdom is very developed, and the Kuntou ship is also very domineering. Moreover, it was a long time later that the Bihai Kingdom discovered that there was Kamagu in the north of the country that could directly connect to Imuran. This was an accident caused by the collapse of the land, not because the country was not thinking well. The Bihai Kingdom's coastal defense was unambiguous, and it was obvious that Liu Mingyan's suppression of the Red-haired Pirates. Therefore, there are reasons for the polarization of the land defense and sea defense of the Bihai Kingdom.
The advantage of fiction novels is that they can create history. They can recombine cases that have happened in actual history like re-creation to create novel and profound stories. It can provide us with space to re-smell and think about history. It is not that time-traveling novels are not good, but if you just insert modern characters into ancient times and copy the history book almost intact, then you might as well read the history book and gain something.
