Chapter IV Temporary Inspection

This is a very special city, and Charles looks out the street view through the clean glass windows.

You say it is a modern society, obviously not.

There is no mobile phone that can be carried with you, and there are no light and convenient electronic products, and it still looks very backward.

Almost all the buildings on both sides of the street are connected together, like mountains that make pedestrians walking on the street feel their insignificance.

It gives people a feeling of depression everywhere, looking at the rusty balcony guardrails covered with green moss, looking at the ropes used to dry clothes, the underwear that had just been cleaned, which might still smell like cheap rinse, and looking at the figures poking in the window, there seemed to be something comforting to hide in the depression.

Some broken neon lights flashed abnormally on the copper-green and gray streets, and these were covered with a layer of gray, which seemed to become the only color to embellish the darkness.

Maybe this is life, each of us is struggling hard on the road to the unknown called life.

The dark and gloomy sky, the drizzle drizzle floating, and the pedestrians bowing their heads on the road seemed to be the world that Charles would live next.

go back?

Maybe it's possible, but that's not what he can do now. The only thing he can do is accept reality and make himself better.

With a sneer, the car stopped. Charles saw a river not far away, and there was also a bridge that was not particularly long but very wide.

The car parked not far from the bridge. After the door opened, a team of twelve soldiers in iron gray uniforms waited on the bus.

When Charles looked back at them, he could clearly feel that some of the passengers in the car became nervous, and he was also a little nervous.

This tension does not come from his fear of these soldiers, but from fear that is unknown, which is the source of fear, and he is no exception.

The leading soldier had a glance at the mustache. His cold eyes stayed on the face of each passenger for a moment, then walked to a young woman holding a child on his left hand, and simply raised her hand and saluted, "Madam, your identity card..."

The female passenger took out the ID card in her pocket in a panic and handed it over.

The soldier looked like a small officer. He handed over the identity card to the soldiers behind him, and the soldier inserted the identity card into a portable small card reader.

Shire noticed that the card reader was connected to a monitor fixed to the soldier's arm, and some green fluorescent letters and monochrome photos appeared inside.

During this period, the officer asked casually, "Madam, can you ask why you are going to Zhongcheng?"

Maybe the woman who was still a girl in Charles' eyes was a little nervous, and she hugged the child's arm and used a little force, which made the child who was not big in her arms suddenly cry.

The soldier standing near the door was in a state of turmoil. The girl quickly covered the child's mouth with her hands and pressed him into her arms, preventing him from making too noisy sounds.

"Sir, the child is sick. There is no medicine in the hospital in the lower city, only in the middle city. I am here to buy medicine..." The girl said, and her eyes began to turn red and her body trembled slightly.

The officer casually pulled out the whip that was clamped under his armpit and held it in his hand. He used the whip to lift the girl's chin and made her raise her head.

She raised her head and looked to the side with fear.

He compared the monitor on the arm of the assistant beside him, then nodded, pulled out the identity card, and returned it to her, "Thank you for your cooperation, ma'am..."

The girl was obviously relieved. After properly putting away her ID card, she hugged the frightened child tightly and started crying quietly.

Maybe she was crying a little loudly. The officer who had already taken two steps stopped and looked back at her, "Is there anything I need my help, ma'am?"

The girl's body trembled violently. She quickly raised her head, wiped away the tears from her face, and smiled, "No, sir..."

The officer nodded slightly and continued to look in the carriage.

After checking several people in a row, there was no problem until he stood in the two rows in front of the seat where Charles sat. A middle-aged man turned his head and looked at the view outside the window, his eyes dodging.

"Sir, your ID card..."

The gentleman sitting in front of Charles obviously didn't hear it. Still looking out the window, the bearded officer reminded him again, "Your identity card, sir!"

The passenger looked back at the soldiers who had blocked his way, and his face turned pale.

He searched every pocket of his body. Even Charles knew that he would not be able to find that important little card with his poor acting skills.

Sure enough, his face turned pale, "I'm sorry, I didn't bring it."

The officer frowned, "Please get out of the car and cooperate with us to check, sir..."

The man raised his hand to wipe the sweat from his forehead, stammering and argued in panic, "I... no, I forgot to bring it... No, I took it, but I lost it... Maybe it was a thief... It was not my responsibility."

"I warn you one last time, sir, please get out of the car and cooperate with our further inspection. sir, this is not a request!"

The gentleman who lost his identity card did not seem to want to get out of the car. The bearded officer took a step back and the two soldiers stepped forward and raised their guns.

It was a gun that Charles had never seen before. It had three muzzles, and the bloated mid-section gun body seemed not conducive to aiming. There were some patterns and marks on the gun. He felt that these seemed a bit redundant.

Because guns are not for appreciation or collection, their only function is to turn violence from ideas to facts, and then take away other people's health or life.

The gentleman was obviously frightened. He raised his hands and slowly stood up. He was escorted off the bus by two soldiers.

The spot check continued, and the group walked to the side of Shire's actions.

The bearded officer still raised his hand very politely and said in a tone that had not changed at all, "Your ID card, sir..."

Shire immediately handed over the ID card. Before the result came out, the bearded officer asked casually, "Sir, can you tell me your purpose for going to Zhongcheng District?"

Shier was about to answer this question, and suddenly several consecutive gunshots came from outside the car...
