Chapter 15 Battle of the Fifteenth Army

During the Battle of Ferry, seventeen soldiers were killed in the army, most of which were killed by the Qing army's three-pound cannons, and a small number were shot to death by the Mongolian cavalry arrows. Although the Ming army's vassal states did not participate in the war, they dispatched a battlefield observation group of varying sizes to watch all the battles on the dam according to the commander's request.

The Qiongfan and the various vassals of the reigning state had no expression, because they had been working with the United States for a long time. Li Dingguo, who had personally observed the battle, was mixed at this time. He never thought that war could be fought like this. The courage and hand-to-hand skills of soldiers were completely useless, and guns and cannonballs could solve everything.

Qian Yuxin ordered the captured prisoners to clear out grenades that had not exploded in the deserted village. In this process, four Qing troops died. After confirming the safety, they placed the Allied Command in a family temple in the deserted village. Li Shan sent various parts to station them to control a larger area and prepare for the Allied troops to cross the river.

In fact, Boluo did not order a large-scale attack at all, and only a few elite cavalry attacked him. The reason is very simple. Although the scale of the Ferry Crossing Battle was not large, it proved that the Qing army's current weapons and tactics were backward to the United States. When the artillery was flexible and the military array firepower was far less than that of the Chinese Army, Boluo knew very well that the Qing army had a great disadvantage in the upright attack. His purpose of aiding Guangdong and Guangxi was to fight against the Allies, rather than to attack and win. Since it was to fight, the defensive posture was the most profitable. In terms of defense alone, the wide rice fields under the dam were obviously not as beneficial as the dense fortifications of the Shenzhen Fortress.

In the twelve days after the end of the Ferry Battle, teams with different banners passed through wide roads on the peninsula and crossed different floating bridges at the ferry bridges. The wooden bridges poured into the fishy land that had been harmed by dogs and sheep barbarians for three years. Behind the army, the convoys transporting logistics supplies were nowhere to be seen. Various large-tonnage transport ships came from Yongning, Taiwan and Luzon to increase their support for this battle through Hong Kong's complete port facilities.

In early November, the army had assembled and headed towards the Qing army fortification group fifteen miles away. At the ferry camp, the Allied forces held a grand expedition ceremony. The head of state of the United States in golden armor and commander of the Southern War Zone, Li Mingxun walked up to the General Stage on the wooden steps covered with red carpets. He was surrounded by thousands of grenadiers in gorgeous armor and tall figures. At the top of the General Stage, Li Mingxun took over the sword and scarlet cloak and put it on the battlefield.

After the grand ceremony, Li Mingxun's high-pitched voice was transmitted from the guards, grenadiers and army layers. The huge and vast voice was like a god descending. The war cry of the soldiers resounded across the banks of the Shenzhen River, shocking the souls of the free people of the United States and the enslaved Chinese compatriots:

Expel the Tartars and restore China!

The war cry stimulated more than 80,000 Chinese soldiers in the audience, and everyone was full of passion. After the ceremony, the array turned one by one and headed towards the battlefield where they were about to fight for life and death. Li Mingxun, wearing golden armor, and his black-bottomed golden dragon flag were standing in front of the entire army.

Boluo inspected the Shenzhen fortress for the last time, which included trenches, fences, artillery turrets, and the complex fortifications of the camp made him very satisfied. When the morning came, Boluo came to the fortifications. The sun rising in the east had already illuminated the horizon, but was suddenly covered by the black lines that broke into it, blocking the newborn sun like a black tide. In the fortification group, the Qing army was shocked when they saw this scene, but Boluo knew that there was no vanguard of the Zhongming Allied Army.

Tens of thousands of cavalrymen opened up and rolled in a vast array. Li Mingxun and Li Dingguo rode side by side on horseback. Li Mingxun's Golden Dragon Banner and Li Dingguo's Jin King's Daqin became the focus of this land. Li Dingguo took the newly obtained telescope and found that the Qing army's fortifications were churning, but no one came out to counterattack. He asked in confusion: "The Qing army has always liked to use cavalry to raid with cavalry while our army is unstable. How did he change his nature today?"

"Bolo is scared." Lee Mingxun smiled.

Li Dingguo asked: "That's true. Since the rebellion, the righteous brother has repeatedly defeated the Qing army. The Qing Dynasty has gone from a pseudo-emperor to an ordinary relative and nobleman, and countless people have died under the righteous brother. I think it's because I'm afraid of the righteous brother's power!"

Li Mingxun smiled and pointed to the two big flags behind him, saying, "The big flag of King Jin in Dingguo is also a nightmare in the hearts of the Qing army. You and I stand here together, even if the sky falls, you can hold the sky up. How can you not be afraid of the little Tartars and barbarians!"

The Qing army's fortification group was located between two mountains, forty miles away from Xin'an County on the coast. Its depth was more than three miles and nearly ten miles east-west. Its focus on defense was the south and east-west sides, and its front was about six miles away from the Shenzhen River. After the Allies crossed the river, they did not spread along the east-west dam. Although it could be more convenient to obtain supplies, it also needed to face the most complete fortifications of the Qing army. The Allies attacked from east to west and directly faced the left wing of the Qing army. In this direction, the Qing army relied on the Futian River, but it was a river that could be crossed.

The Qing army fortification group spread along the river embankment east and west, with a total of five camps in front and back, three in front and two in back. There were trenches, fences and forts in front and on both sides of the camp. There were three civil-structured artillery towers between the fortification group and the Shenzhen river embankment, each with fifteen to thirty artillery towers. There were a multi-faceted fort and two artillery towers on the other side of the Futian River facing the east, which was the main support point for the Qing army to control the area east of the Futian River.

This fortification group takes into account both garrison and defense. It includes the trenches and fences used by the Qing army to siege Ningyuan and Jinzhou, as well as the European-style multi-faceted fortresses and artillery towers. Similar fortifications emerged one after another in the 30th Years of the European War. Such a systematic war made everyone realize that this battle was not so easy to fight.

Li Mingxun ordered the First Army Division as the Central Army to launch troops from north to south, reaching the foot of Bijia Mountain in the north and reaching the north bank of Shenzhen River in the south. The front line is only six miles long, with Bijia Mountain and Shenzhen River embankment as commanding heights, placing cavalry and reserves at their feet, and preventing the Qing army from raiding around Bijia Mountain, which also poses a threat to the Qing army's rations and rear camp.

The First Army Division stood in the position of the central army, while the Xiying Army, which had more cavalry, was deployed at the foot of the Shenzhen River, as the left wing of the army, the Qiongfan Heshun Army was connected to the central army at the foot of Bijia Mountain, as the right wing of the army. The vassal states of the country were located behind the army, and the wings protected the grain road. Li Mingxun was in the middle command, Li Dingguo was in charge of the left wing, Yuan Shizhong and Gao Yigong managed the right wing, Zheng Fan and Zheng Cai were the general manager of the rear army. After the army set up camp, they did not attack directly, but consolidated the traffic from the camp to the ferry.

The engineers and Zheng Fan's army cut trees in nearby hills and surrounding villages, demolished houses, and laid wooden boards on muddy roads to increase transportation capacity. In the face of this decisive battle that concerns half of China's destiny, no one would feel bitter, and no general would take risks or be impatient. Everything was proceeding in an orderly manner according to the plan formulated by the staff of the commander-in-chief.

The Allied forces have no advantage in military strength, but have advantages in materials, firepower and morale. Li Mingxun uses every means to give full play to this advantage and win in a more stable way.

The attack date was set on November 17th. According to the order issued by Commander Li Mingxun, the whole army worked together to defeat the Qing army and went to Guangzhou to celebrate the New Year. After the entire army received the order, the faces of the tried-and-true soldiers showed excitement. Tomorrow is the time to determine their destiny, and few people fell asleep on this night.

The camp was filled with the smell of gunpowder. Although it had not snowed yet in winter in Guangdong, the weather was also severely cold. The soldiers gathered around the fire and talked about something to each other. The Qing army camp in the distance lighted from time to time, and the Allied forces also had heavy artillery fighting back. Most of the time, the Allied forces had the advantage.

A sudden noise came from the frontier camp. In the early morning, Li Mingxun appeared at the frontier. At this time, he lost his majesty as before. He walked through the camp with a relaxed expression, patrolling the military camp, and stopped from time to time to talk to the non-commissioned officers or veterans in the trenches. Sometimes he could even call out someone's name, which would arouse everyone's envy.

More and more people gathered together and formed two walls of humanity. The soldiers came from all over the world and were subordinate to different armies, Han people, Qili charming, Eastern Band natives, Guangxi Zhuang and Yao people, some were the economic army of the United States, as well as the Ming army, the Western army veterans, and the Shun army old camp. Everyone looked at Li Mingxun with excitement. The soldiers eagerly surrounded him and Li Dingguo who was accompanying him.

"Two Your Highnesses, we will definitely win after dawn." A veteran of Jin vassal stood up bravely and said to Li Mingxun and Li Dingguo.

"What are your opinions?" Li Mingxun asked with a smile.

The veteran said: "Because we are united, I trace back to the King of Jin coming out of Shaanxi and fighting for twenty years. The life of fighting our own people is much longer than that of the Tartars. I am used to internal friction. Now, the two high men have unified all forces under a big banner. For more than twenty years, the Han family has never had such a unity. If we cannot win, all of us should die."

Li Mingxun walked over, patted his shoulder, and said, "You are right. Today's unity is the condition for defeating the Tartars tomorrow. In today's battle, you are no longer fighting for someone or a force, but fighting for my China. Looking at the past three thousand years, our tribe is united and the battle to control foreign captives has never failed. This is the case with the ancients. People today should follow the example of the sages. Even if I die in Dingguo, they will die for the people and die for the tribe. Death is more important than Mount Tai. Although they die, their military spirit will always be there. In the future, the nation is liberated and the people are peaceful. We will not forget the warriors who are generous to them today!"

As he said that, Li Mingxun took Li Dingguo's hand, stood at the highest point, and shouted loudly: "Brothers, warriors, Mingxun and Dingguo are with you!"

The veteran suddenly burst into tears in his eyes and shouted, "I didn't expect that Qiu Ba, who was killing people for his career, could also be valued so much by the world. Even if he died in battle today, what else is there to regret?

Your Highness, Your Highness, King of Jin, thank you for giving me a chance to fight for the people, and you will die without regrets!”

"Yes, even if you die tomorrow, you will die without regrets!" The soldiers shouted passionately, and they didn't know who shouted in the crowd: Long live the head of state, long live the King of Jin! The entire camp was boiling, and this long live cheer ignited every corner of the Allied camp. The soldiers shouted indulged in a loud voice, sweeping away like a dragon roaring and tiger roaring.

Qing army camp.

On the cold leather mat, Boluo suddenly woke up. He had just had a dream. He dreamed that countless island barbarians were chasing him with bright bayonets, chasing him from Guangzhou to Meiguan, Changsha, Nanjing, and Beijing, and chasing him all the way to Baishan and Black Water. He didn't give up. He wiped the sweat from his face, stood up and put on his armor, and suddenly heard the sound of dragon roars. He turned over and shouted: "What happened, what sound?"

"It seems that there is something happening on the island barbarians." Zhumala had just inspected the military camp and ran over, and the vassal kings of the three Han vassals had quickly gathered.

Boluo and the kings got on their horses and came to the forefront. But they saw the fire in the opposite camp, and fire dragons surged in the camp, unstoppable. The soldiers' shouts of long live together were loud and bright, overwhelming all the sounds of this world. The northeast wind came, conveying the sound of long live to every corner of the Qing army camp. Boluo's heart became cold.

"This group of dogs has never finished fighting himself in the past, but how did you change your temper today and become like this?" Zhumala shouted indignantly.

Boluo sighed and said, "There are two Lis in the thief army. As long as these two people are not in chaos, the rest of the people will not be in chaos. Everyone, let's go back to their own formation. This battle is not easy to fight."
