Chapter VIII Fighting Tan Jiaqiao One

On November 18, Xiang Ying's Central Military Region's telegram was ordered by Fang Zhimin, Liu Chouxi, Le Shaohua, Nie Hongjun and Liu Ying to form a military and political committee, with Fang Zhimin as the chairman, and unified the leadership of the entire army. He should attack the outside line in a mobile warfare to create a new Soviet area on the border of Anhui and Zhejiang. The entire army is still called the Red Army's northward anti-Japanese advance team.

Fang Zhimin and others immediately mobilized the entire army and made detailed arrangements for the concealment of wounded people in the Soviet area and the transfer of mass.

The Red Ten Army was reorganized and joined the newly formed 21st Division, mainly composed of Red Guards, with Hu Tiantao as the division commander.

At the same time, Su Yu, who is good at military affairs, was transferred to the Chief of Staff of the Red Tenth Army, and Huang Ying, the commander of the 58th Regiment, was specially appointed as the commander of the 20th Division. Liu Chouxi was not currently the commander of the 20th Division, and was transferred to the Chief of Staff of the 20th Division as Wang Ruchi as the Chief of Staff of the 19th Division.

The entire army has more than 10,000 troops.

After the reorganization, the 19th Red Division was ordered to "mobilize to the border of Zhejiang and Anhui Ji, to fight against the "chasing and suppressing" enemies, and to develop a new Soviet area.

Under the leadership of Xunhuaizhou, the 19th Red Division advanced to the Zhejiang-Anhui-Jiangxi border from Huaiyu Mountain and northeast of Dexing through the enemy blockade line.

At this time, Xunhuaizhou got rid of Zeng Hongyi and Le Shaohua's interference. Based on the actual situation at that time, he fully displayed his command ability, took the initiative to flexibly attack the enemy, and led his troops to defeat the two security groups that were chasing in one fell swoop.

Later, passing Shangfang Town, crossing Xin'an River to Fenshui County, Wusheng, approaching Changhua, and shocking Hangzhou in Qianyang and Lin'an.

Then he turned to southern Anhui, and passed Xie County and near Jixi to conquer Jude County. Then he went north from Jing County and Xuancheng to threaten Wuhu, showing outstanding military command skills.

Just as Xun Huaizhou was leading the activities of the 19th Red Division, Xiang Ying's Central Military Region sent a message, ordering the 19th Red Division to return immediately to meet with the Red Ten Army and the Red Twenty and Twenty-First Divisions,

The actions of the Red 10th Corps immediately attracted the attention of the Kuomintang army. Every day, Italian air force reconnaissance aircraft flew to conduct reconnaissance, and the supplementary first brigade of the National Army Wang Yao's military headquarters also followed.

On December 10, the 19th Division and the main force of the Red Tenth Army met in Tangkou, southeast of Huangshan.

The entire army immediately created a great momentum, implemented the policy of defeating local tyrants and sharing wealth, and actively promoted the Red Army's proposal to go north to fight against Japan and save the country.

As a result, Chiang Kai-shek finally couldn't sit still. Jiangsu and Zhejiang were always a place of wealth in China, and how could they allow others to sleep soundly on their bedside?

Chiang Kai-shek immediately mobilized five regular divisions, two independent brigades, four security regiments, plus reserve troops, with more than 100,000 people, with Yu Jishi as the commander-in-chief, the left, middle and right three routes surrounding the Red Tenth Army and chasing them.

At that time, the enemy situation was the Zhejiang Security Column, the 21st Brigade of the 7th Division, the 49th Division, and the 1st Brigade and other units, which were divided into three routes to encircle southern Anhui.

The wings of the left and right wings of the enemy were closely connected to each other, and the only way was to supplement the First Brigade was isolated and prominent, and it was determined that it was at least eight hours from the main force of the 49th Division of the Central Column.

In view of the current enemy situation, the Red Tenth Army Command held a meeting. Xunhuaizhou insisted on finding a loophole to fight a battle, and could not always be chased.

Su Yu advocated fighting the troops of Wang Yao who had followed him; Le Shaohua believed that the 1st Brigade was fully established, and the strength of a brigade and the 10th Corps of the Red Army was similar, while the weapons were far better than that of the Red Army. They could only go quickly and not fight hard. Liu Choixi's attitude was ambiguous.

Finally, Fang Zhimin considered that it was necessary to attack the enemy in order to take the initiative. So he decided to renovate a brigade and the battlefield was placed in Wuni Pass near Tanjia Bridge in western Zhejiang.

There are mountains and forests on both sides from Wuni Pass to Tanjia Bridge, which facilitates the concealment of the troops. If the Red Army can defeat the First Brigade, it will not only replenish a large amount of scarce materials and equipment, but also destroy the enemy's arrogance and truly gain a foothold in southern Anhui.

Wuni Pass is about five kilometers away from Tanjia Bridge and is a mountain pass. A road passes from south to north. There is a high ground on the east side of the road, a small hillside on the north side, and a cliff at the southern end of the road. This terrain is very suitable for ambush battles.

Xunhuaizhou believes that the main force should be placed on the hillside on the north side of the road, and the machine gun fire should be set on the high ground on the east side of the road. After the enemy enters the encirclement, it will suddenly attack and divide the enemy.

Another branch was ambushed on the west side of the road, and after the battle started, the enemy was cut off from the way back. It can be said that it was almost certain to win.

Liu Choxi announced the combat plan.

The combat deployment of the Red Tenth Army was to set up an ambush at the area from Wuniguan to Tanjiaqiao, and the army's teaching team and the mine team laid mines on both sides of the road. If the enemy did not find the Red Army, they would wait until they entered the fire network and then take consistent actions to kill them. Otherwise, they would have to wait until the main force started before they could launch a head-on attack from the front.

In the ambush area, the right wing, the 2nd regiment of the 20th Division and the 56th regiment of the 19th Division, were ambushed in the dense forest of the highlands south of Tanjiaqiao to the northern end of Shimengang, and served as a frontal attack. After the mines on the road exploded, the three regiments attacked at the same time, suppressing the enemy on the road and squeezing and eliminating them at the foot of Huangshan.

Two regiments of the 19th Division were ambushed in the left wing of the ambush area. After the main attack direction was started, they crossed the Machuan River and penetrated from east Shimengang to Wuni Pass, and tried their best to cut off the enemy's rear.

The intention of this battle is very positive, but Xun Huaizhou and Su Yu have objections to the specific combat deployment.

They believe that the 19th Division has rich field experience and a tenacious style; the 20th Division is a new team, which has not been formed for a long time, and it is not enough to serve as the main strategy.

Liu Choxi was quite confident, thinking that his old army had no problems.

His confidence is very capitalized, and his experience is very legendary: he joined the party in 1922; participated in the May Fourth Movement; served as the guard of Mr. Sun Yat-sen; the first phase of Huangpu, in the first phase of the Mianhu Battle of the First Eastern Expedition------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Several people in the Kuomintang and Communist camps could match this experience. However, this time he overestimated himself and underestimated the enemy.

The name of the First Brigade of Supplementary brigade is not a second-rate, but was adapted by three supplementary troupes from the Security Training Department in the winter of 1933. It is well equipped and has high quality.

Most of the officers graduated from military academy, and most of the soldiers are northerners, and their combat effectiveness is not weak.

Brigade Commander Wang Yaowu, in Liu Chouxi's eyes, may be just a backdoor student in the third phase of Huangpu, and a young man at the counter of the Shanghai station in his early years.

But Wang Yaowu went south to intercept the Nanchang Uprising; Wang Yaowu was the one who insisted on the strategic location of Huang in the four "encirclements and suppression" days and was not captured by the Red Army for 24 days, and Wang Yaowu was praised as a miracle by Chiang Kai-shek.

In the future, Wang Yaowu was the one who trained the elite 74th Army of the foreign army.

On December 14th, the Supplementary First Brigade took the Third Battalion of the Third Regiment of Zhejiang Security Regiment as the forefront, and the rest passed through Wuni Pass and Tanjiaqiao to pursue Taiping County in the order of direct teams, third regiments, and first regiments.

At around 7 o'clock, the brigade team arrived at Wuni Pass and saw that the terrain in this area was dangerous. In order to prevent accidents, the first regiment was left to defend Wuni Pass and its highlands near the east and west, and the rest of the troops continued to move forward.

The Red Army was well hidden, and the enemy found no traces, and the team advanced wildly.

At around 9 o'clock, when the enemy's vanguard regiment reached about three kilometers south of Tanjia Bridge, the enemy immediately became alert because the ambush troops fired. They found that the Red Army was ambushing and immediately began to seize the roadside high ground and sent people to report the situation backwards. This ambush instantly turned into a tough battle.

Yu Jishi, the commander of the enemy's "Chasing and Suppression Team", immediately issued a combat order: "The supplementary brigade (Wang Brigade) is attached to the Zhejiang Guardian Chen Camp. With more than one regiment of troops, the highlands in the eastern end of the automobile road between Wuni Pass and Tanjiaqiao should be occupied by the high ground in the east end of the automobile road between Wuni Pass and Tanjiaqiao to prevent the enemy from attacking our side and plagiarizing the bandits' side."

"The other two battalions and more than one battalion occupy the highlands southwest of Tanjiaqiao, the southeast area, attack the bandits head-on, and warn me to the left." "The rest are reserve teams, and should be placed at the southwest end of the May 15th Highland to standby."

After receiving the order, Wang Yaowu immediately ordered the second vanguard regiment to deploy a battalion of Zhejiang Guardians to spread in the southwest end of Tanjiaqiao to stand by on standby, and ordered the third vanguard to quickly seize the May 15th highland and its key points in the northwest and southeast, and ordered the first vanguard regiment to support all parties as the reserve team. He personally led the brigade spies to the vanguard regiment to supervise the battle.

When the battle began, the Red Army attacked fiercely, causing the enemy's Second Regiment's Forewar Battalion into chaos, and the enemy's commander and deputy were injured.

However, the first battalion of the enemy's third regiment first captured the May 15th Heights and directly supported the Second Regiment's operations. In addition, the engineering company and the spy company captured the small heights in the northwest of the May 15th Heights.

The enemy concentrated most of the troops from the two regiments against Tanjiaqiao, occupying all the highlands east of Wuni Pass and Tanjiaqiao, thus taking the initiative to transfer the battlefield.

On the other hand, the Red Twenty Division had insufficient experience and ideological preparation for fighting tough battles, and was not good at field battles. Although the offensive was very fierce, they even fought hand-to-hand combat and eventually defeated.

When the battle between the Red 20th Division started, the Red 19th Division moved south according to the combat plan. Before it had passed through the mountainous areas ahead, the Red 20th Division had already been defeated.

The commander of the legion immediately changed the combat plan and ordered the 19th Red Division to return to the rescue and jointly attack the enemy's forward.

However, at this time, the Third Enemy had sent a battalion to occupy the commanding heights of Shimengang, overlooking the lowlands in the north, and partitioning the Red 19th Division, which was interspersed with marching, was under the cliffs to the east of Shimengang and north. The Red 19th Division team could not be used and was suppressed by the enemy's firepower in a narrow valley.

Because the Wuniguan May 15th Highland was occupied, the battlefield was already very passive and the situation was extremely critical.

Xunhuaizhou immediately led the 19th Division from the northwest of Shimengang to launch an attack on the May 15th Highland of Wuniguan.

Xun Huaizhou personally led the team to charge. Although he finally regained the commanding heights after repeated repeated efforts, the troops had lost their attacking spirit. Unfortunately, Xun Huaizhou was shot in the lower right abdomen and was seriously injured.

At the same time, the situation in the Red 20th Division worsened. The enemy troops on the road on several attacks on the back of the road were repelled, and the positions in various places were washed away by the enemy, and many senior commanders were injured and killed.

At around 2:00 p.m., after gaining a foothold, Wang Yaowu issued an order to attack. The Red Army was also making a last-ditch effort, and the May 15th Highland became the focus of the competition.
