Chapter 547 GPS and Beidou

Since Yang Xing has so many benefits to establishing a satellite company, the military, as an old partner, quickly made a decision after the base representative asked for instructions and decided to carry out in-depth cooperation with Yang Xing. In order to thank Yang Xing for his support over the years, he specially invited Yang Xing and his fiancée to visit the confidential areas in the aerospace base that are generally not open to the public, including the "Wentian Pavilion", the apartment where the women are most interested in, which has just been built and the future astronauts lived before they finally set off. Many of the training equipment and aerospace foods used for astronauts were the first to give them a sneak peek, and they also let them wear training space suits and walk a few times, which satisfied everyone's curiosity.

As for cooperation with the military on satellites, the two sides decided to adopt a secret approach after discussion, that is, to let military technicians give up their military status and recruit into the company as ordinary people, and arrange them in key positions. They should try their best to hide their history of joining the army and not reveal any tone that is related to the military.

Because satellite technology is a strategic high-tech internationally, countries have extremely strict controls. Yang Xing was planning to set up the satellite company's headquarters in the United States from the beginning. In addition to bypassing US technical supervision, it also reduces the US's vigilance. This is a lesson from the past. Yang Xing also wants to get involved in satellite pictures and satellite positioning technologies. If there is a trace of clues that are involved with the domestic military, not only will they be frustrated, but even Iridium is in danger.

The United States is deeply wary of the rapid development of domestic aerospace technology. Base representatives introduced that my country began to undertake foreign satellite launch business in the early 1990s. Because of the low quotation, the launch success rate was high. There was a period of glorious period. Even twelve of Iridium were launched using Long March rockets. However, as major companies such as Hughes and Laura Satellites in the United States also handed over the launch mission to China and negotiated cooperation in the development of satellites, it finally made American conservatives feel restless and believed that they had touched their reverse scales.

On February 15, 1996, my country failed to launch the International 708 communication satellite for the US Laura Satellite Company, and the planet was destroyed. The American conservatives took the opportunity to seize the matter and attack the US-China satellite cooperation, and accused Hughes and Laura Satellite Company of helping China develop rocket technology. In the end, the US State Department issued the famous "Arms Export Control Regulations in International Trade" (  itar) in 1999, proposing that in order to prevent China from adopting commercial launch business to improve military missile technology, American manufacturing will be banned, including satellites containing American components, including satellites that use Chinese rocket launches.

Since the United States is the most developed satellite industry and most satellites in the world use American satellite technology and parts to a greater or lesser extent, the US ban has had a huge blow to domestic commercial rocket launches, resulting in a sharp reduction in my country's orders to undertake satellite launches from abroad, seriously affecting my country's space program. Therefore, Yang Xing and the military's satellite cooperation can only be carried out secretly.

However, there are always ways to break the so-called ban. Although Americans often blocked China with technological blockades, the facts prove that the United States blocked us with more and more powerful technologies, and we have developed better. The achievements made by domestic astronauts in manned space are very close to those of the United States. Yang Xing gave the military a big gift package, and of course he also had some requests. He proposed that he hoped to carry out in-depth cooperation on the satellite navigation system "Beidou" that the military is developing.

Yang Xing thought this way because satellite navigation is a sunrise industry with broad prospects. In the First Gulf War, the US military allowed the world to appreciate the huge multiplier role of the GPS satellite navigation system in high-tech war for the first time. After the war, all parties launched their respective satellite navigation systems, hoping to seize the commanding heights of the technology.

GPS is full name global  positioning  system (Global Positioning System), and is the world's earliest established and most mature satellite positioning system. Its appearance marks the unveiling of a layer of fog over people's heads for tens of millions of years. "Where am I on the earth, how far am I from my destination, and what time is now?" The questions of the immediate direction and time that plague humans finally have answers.

In the 1970s, the US Army, Navy and Air Force jointly developed a new generation of satellite positioning system GPS. The initial purpose was to provide real-time, all-weather and global navigation services to the three armies, and to apply them to military purposes such as intelligence collection, nuclear explosion monitoring and emergency communication. After more than 20 years of research and experiments, networking was formed, and 24 GPS satellites with a global coverage rate of up to 98 were finally deployed.

GPS technology is a new technology for the US military. In the past, hundreds or thousands of unguided bombs were required to be dropped to eliminate the target. Just add an additional device to receive the GPS signal, which can attack the target with an accuracy of about 10 meters. Moreover, compared with the bombs guided by laser and television in the US military arsenal, smoke, night, clouds and other traditional interferences have little impact on GPS. The only thing that can interfere with it is probably whether the GPS signal is normal. GPS guidance technology has become a hot commodity for the US military's competition. The two bombs that attacked the Chinese Embassy in Yugoslavia in 1999 were the GPS guided JDA bombs used by the US Air Force.

In this life, due to Yang Xing's intervention, he put in an empty city plan to prevent the embassy from being bombed but no casualties. However, the B-2 stealth bomber responsible for the bombing crashed and one seriously injured, and the wife was compensated and the army was lost. What was surprising was that one of the jdam bombs did not detonate and was secretly transported back to the country. With the talent of the Chinese people, it has been cracked in reverse. The Chinese version of "jdam" is about to be released.

Although gps is good, it is controlled by the Americans. Americans set many restrictions at the beginning of R&D. For example, when the GPS satellite works normally, it will continuously use pseudo-random codes (abbreviated as pseudo-codes) composed of 1 and 0 binary code elements to transmit navigation messages. This pseudo-code is divided into civilian c/a codes and military p(y) codes. The c/a code has an accuracy of about 20 meters, while the p(y) code can reach 2 meters.

The key is that the US side can also deliberately choose to turn off the GPS signal in a certain region, which will cause any product that uses GPS guidance to fail briefly. For other major countries in the world, if you really use GPS to navigate, it is simply putting your head into the American noose.

Don’t want to be controlled by others, Russia, China and Europe are working hard to develop their own "GPS". Among them, Russia’s "GLONAS" satellite navigation system began to be built during the Cold War. Although the plan was set due to the collapse of the Soviet Union, it has now begun to accelerate its construction, which is the best navigation system closest to the US GPS system. The "Galileo" navigation system jointly developed by European countries has also been on the agenda, and its advancedness and positioning accuracy are even stronger than GPS.

In fact, the country has been planning this matter for a long time. This is the first time that Yang Xing has heard that my country had carried out the research and development of satellite navigation systems as early as the late 1960s, although the middle was intermittent due to many reasons. After the reform and opening up, the country finally made up its mind to develop a new generation of satellite navigation systems that suit the national conditions.

From the late 1980s to the early 1990s, after watching the use of GPS in the US military's desert storm operation shocked the country's upper class, the country proposed its own navigation satellite plan - "Beidou", which was ready to go in three steps. Due to the help of certain technical reserves and experience, the development speed was very fast. Two test satellites were launched in October and December last year, basically achieving technical indicators for dual-star positioning, marking the beginning of the formation of my country's satellite navigation system.

However, Yang Xing’s impression is that due to insufficient estimates of the complexity of the “Beidou” satellite navigation system and the technical gap in this area in China, the experiment of the “Beidou” system did not end until 2007, and then the formal construction of the formal satellite navigation system began.

During the same period, in view of the maturity of GPS technology and dominance of the market, the United States officially announced in 1999 that it would cancel the policy of deliberately weakening civil codes on the premise of ensuring that the US national security is not threatened. The accuracy of civil codes in GPS has been improved worldwide, and the accuracy of single-point positioning using c/a codes has been increased from 100 meters to 10 meters.

After 2006, depending on whether the situation is going to continue, the policy has been adhered to. In fact, this policy has been persisted, and a huge satellite navigation system market has opened up. Some people predict that the use of GPS technology alone will have a profit margin of tens of billions of dollars.

Yang Xing is probably even higher. At the just-concluded World Congress, Xingdou Research Institute, which was instructed by Yang Xing, launched a series of GPS-related products, from vehicle-mounted GPS instruments to GPS chips that can be integrated into mobile phones. The satellite navigation market has great potential and has become a consensus among the company.

Given the huge scale of the civilian GPS market, if the "Beidou" was launched too late, I am afraid that even if the technology is advanced and the effect is better, it will be ruthlessly eliminated if it is taken away by others. Countless examples have proved that advanced technology may not necessarily achieve commercial success, and Iridium is a negative teaching material.

If the "Beidou" system cannot obtain economic benefits, relying solely on military use will undoubtedly be a great waste of national resources. Yang Xing's meaning is to promote the civil use and formalization of the "Beidou" system. Obviously, the military is not all stubborn and ignorant. Yang Xing's suggestion is very meaningful. Yang Xing has expressed great sincerity in the cooperation of satellite companies. Moreover, the documents on the "Gronas" satellite navigation system he brought back in the Soviet secret file also avoided many detours in the country.

Yang Xing wanted to occupy a leading position in the civilian market after the success of the "Beidou" system. Although this will damage the interests of some military-industrial groups, who can give them more chips? So after visiting the Jiuquan Launch Center, Yang Xing's face was filled with not only his pride in the national aerospace industry, but also his joy in achieving his own goals.

The company will organize a tour next week and can only post all the accumulated chapters. I have to stop updating on Sunday, so please understand.
