Chapter 68: Xuanzang's Study of Scriptures from the West
It is said that the host of Qingniling Temple originated from Mount Emei to become a monk. However, she has not promoted Buddhism in the Qinling Mountains. Perhaps because she was not good at studying Buddhism, otherwise how could she have had a good relationship with Taoist people with unknown factions? As a disciple from Mount Emei, this kind of thing is now a taboo.
At first, there were many Taoist temples in Mount Emei. In the late Han Dynasty and the Eastern Jin Dynasty, Buddhism used Mount Emei as the temple for Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, and soon excluded Taoism. Now the Taoist temples in Mount Emei still exist, but they have many contradictions with Buddhism.
Of course, the disciples of Jingniang don’t care about these things. They claim to be Taoism, but in fact they are a bit inappropriate. The host of Qingniling Temple should pay attention to these things, but now she doesn’t seem to want to pay attention to them. The temple is on the verge of bankruptcy, and perhaps she thinks that it is the most important to prevent a group of women from starving to death.
Now, in order to repay the favors of the female Taoist priest Jing Niang, the two nuns came to Sanguan hundreds of miles away. Then they were involved in mundane affairs and were asked to describe the terrain, climate and other conditions of Qingniling.
Although Guo Shao was in awe of unknown things such as gods and ghosts, he did not believe in any religion, let alone be nuns or Taoist nuns, he would use them as long as they were useful. He was only focused on making military achievements and was waiting to marry the second sister of the Fu family.
According to the nuns, Qingniling is actually very good. It is on the "Chencang Road", but it is just the most difficult part of the northern section of Shu Road; it is located forty miles south of Guzhen.
The Shu Road first extended along the Jialing River. After arriving in Fengzhou, it was more troublesome to cross the Jialing River, which had a dangerous and urgent river water. So it changed the route westward, passed Guzhen, and then passed Qingniling. Qingniling is a place with high mountains and rain, and it is difficult to walk on the road. In fact, it is the most dangerous place. There have been many wars. Not only is it difficult to capture, but it is even difficult to walk and cross the mountains when there is nothing to do.
After hearing the nun’s story, Guo Shao felt that Qingniling was in the south of Guzhen and did not belong to the battle target of the capture of Qin and Feng this time. He felt relieved in his heart.
A group of women came north along the Shu Road and found out the military camps north of the mighty city, with a total of eight places. This information was very useful to Guo Shao.
...The two teams sent out in the early stage have returned, and Guo Shao and the generals agreed to return to Fengxiang. But before leaving, he decided to consolidate the two sites of Qingniling Temple and Lao Luo's family in Tangcang Town to establish a stronghold.
This is a simple "intelligence system". The main station is located at Chencang, the end of Shu Road. It rented a private house and was temporarily left behind by Luo Yanhuan and two personal soldiers. There are two strongholds under it, one is Qingniling Temple, which allows Jingniang's subordinates to pretend to be Buddhist lay disciples and stay behind; the other is Tangcang Town, which is no longer garrisoned by strong personal soldiers, but is disguised as vendors from Li Chuyun's family, and is connected with Old Man Luo. Li Chuyun's servants are obviously not soldiers, but are easier.
It turns out that everyone can do this for the first time when they saw the spy. Before, the generals wanted to inquire about military information, either asked about the peddlers and pawns, or sent scouts to temporarily find out the situation. Hidden and undercover are really little known in the army... Therefore, Guo Shao had to arrange it himself. This matter is easy, and he can maintain such a simple organization by willing to spend money to support him; as long as the reward is reasonable, people who are willing to take this risk are everywhere.
On the way, Zuo You couldn't help but praise Guo Shao in front of Yang Biao and others: "The lord is good at using people, whether it is a Taoist nun or a lord, or a lord's servant, it can be used. I remembered the battle in Wuqi Town again. The lord was able to quickly rectify the unorganized wounded soldiers, even the elderly, weak, women and children, into a powerful force, which made people amazed."
Luo Mengzi disagreed and said, "The general said that the elder brother is best at seizing the opportunity, otherwise the brothers would all die in the Hedong battle formation, and Shi Yanchao would not be able to survive!"
...
As soon as he returned to Fengxiang Inn, Guo Shao found that someone was looking at him in the window on the wooden building. Perhaps because of the instinctive reaction formed by practicing archery, he paid extra attention to the commanding heights in the wider field of vision, so he suddenly discovered the Li family girl hiding behind the window.
Then everyone on both sides looked up with Guo Shao's eyes. He was the leader of the group, so naturally every word and action was easier to attract attention from the people accompanying him. However, at this time, people didn't see anything, only saw a window, and the bamboo curtain was still shaking gently.
Just like the sudden review of everyone in the hall of Li's Mansion in Binzhou, no one saw her. The Li family's wife always moved so quickly.
The Li family’s wife’s thoughts, let alone the blind man, could see that Guo Shao was the person involved. Guo Shao could only pretend to be stupid... If it weren’t for Queen Fu’s promise to him, he would think the Li family’s wife was also good.
Then everyone went back to their room. Jingniang and Guo Shao walked together. As soon as they walked up the wooden stairs, they ran into Li. Li stood in front of him, lowering his head and blushing. Guo Shao and Jingniang were both stunned. Guo Shao hurriedly bowed his hand and said hello.
Li said softly: "I have washed the robe I have worn for me in Guodu, Binzhou, and I will give it back to you."
Guo Shao took a look and she didn't take anything with her hands empty-handed. She thought to herself: Returning something is a natural excuse to meet. This trick is still used in later generations and modern times. However, Li seemed a little awkward. Since she returned something, she didn't even take something. Guo Shao had the illusion of falling in love for a moment, but his mind was still clear: love in ancient times was definitely not something that could be talked about casually.
It was just something, her face was carefully decorated; her clothes were also new, with a light red silk material on the upper body, a short narrow sleeve, and a silk ribbon, which was called a silk at this time; the skirt was slightly darker in color, and the floral patterns were like pomegranates, forming a sense of layering.
But for Guo Shao, as long as his face is not ugly, he can wear anything in his clothes; what he cares most about is the figure and temperament of a woman. At this time, his eyes were quickly attracted by Li's bulging chest... It has been nearly two months since he left Beijing, and he has not known the land of gentleness for a long time, so he is really provoked to be emotional.
It was nearly October, and the weather in Guanzhong was colder, and people were wearing thicker clothes. At this time, women did not have bra support, and Han people's clothes were looser. The breasts that could support a few layers of thick clothes would never be too small... Guo Shao didn't like too small breasts. Moreover, Li's face was also very beautiful, with a roundness of weak bones and plump muscles. However, in terms of figure, Jing Niang was the most exaggerated and seductive, but she deliberately covered it up and was usually cold, so Guo Shao didn't dare to do anything easily.
He was stimulated by Li's soft words, and shamelessly imagined a pair of white and big jade rabbits in his mind. At this time, Li said lightly: "You go and take your robe... There is a broken hole in the place, and I have sewed it for you."
Guo Shao stood still.
Li turned around and said, "Come on." His tone seemed to be coaxing him and seducing him.
Guo Shao thought for a moment, then greeted Jingniang: "Please help me get that dress."
He was just glad that he was smart and adaptable, but Li said directly: "You left Fengxiang for a total of 32 days, and I counted it, as if it had been thirty-two years... What's wrong with me? Why do you ignore it?"
Guo Shao was speechless and thought that it was not bad for her, but Fu Ermei should be better. If she didn't have to be responsible, of course both of them were good...
At this moment, Jing Niang walked up and said to Li coldly: "Don't you want to return the clothes? Are you going to return them?"
Such cold words made Li suddenly stunned. Perhaps she realized that there was a woman beside Guo Shao. It was not that Jing Niang was not easy to be noticed, she was tall, not a person who was easily overlooked; it was just that she didn't say a word before, as if she was indifferent, and Li didn't really want to care about her.
Li did not compete with Jing Niang, and took Jing Niang back to the house to get things in frustration.
So Guo Shao and Jing Niang went to the other room one after another. Jing Niang threw his clothes on the bed and was about to leave, but couldn't help but turn around and said, "Why don't you accept the kindness of the Li family's wife?"
Guo Shao pondered for a while, then asked, "My Lady Jing heard of Master Xuanzang of the Tang Dynasty?"
"Yeah." Jing Niang responded casually, standing there just waiting for him to continue saying something.
Guo Shao sighed and continued, "Xuanzang is a great monk in the Tang Dynasty, so he is called Tang Monk. Tang Monk went to India to seek scriptures. It is said that he had gone through eighty-one difficulties along the way. I don't think it's all difficult. Some are dangerous, while others are tempting. The monsters on the road heard that Tang Monk could live forever after eating meat, so many monsters wanted to harm him... However, some female fairies just fell in love with him, lustfulness and lust, and there was also a queen of the Kingdom of Women. She enjoyed endless wealth and beauty, and wanted Tang Monk to stay and share the country with her. But in the end, Tang Monk was unmoved."
Jing Niang listened carefully and said, "This is the first time I have heard Xuanzang go to India to have such strange and strange theories. Then why is he not moved? Do you want to say that he saw through the world and the four elements are empty?"
Guo Shao shook his head and said, "After Monk Tang takes the sutra, he can become a Buddha. Compared with the good things such as becoming a Buddha and living with the sun and the moon, the beautiful Emperor of the Kingdom of Women is not worth mentioning. Therefore, those temptations cannot move him at all."
"Has Xuanzang become a Buddha?" Jing Niang became more and more curious.
Guo Shao nodded and said, "This is the case in the legend. Retrieve the scriptures to save all living beings and benefit living beings. Then he can achieve fame and become a Buddha. Everyone has a happy ending."
Jing Niang understood and nodded as if she had some understanding, then shook her head: "What does it have to do with your rejection of the Li family's wife? What do you want to get to be like Xuanzang becoming a Buddha?"
Guo Shao felt that this "Saint Aunt" had no threat in recent months, but she was not someone who could be trusted unconditionally... He did not tell anyone about the queen's promise, and even Yang Luo and other brothers did not know.
Besides, Jing Niang has ignored Zhao Kuangyin recently, and even ignored Taoist temple affairs and came to follow her... Guo Shao could probably guess that he had to be responsible for his destruction of her innocence, but how did she want to be responsible for herself? Guo Shao didn't believe that Jing Niang was willing to be a concubine.
So he casually said, "You will understand in the future."
