Chapter 86: Success

Mengying is a twenty-year-old young man who has serialized several times in "Weekly Boy".

After his debut for one year, he drew four short comics, and three of them had poor results in the survey, and only one of them successfully converted into a serialized comic. However, this serialized comic was beaten to half due to its decline in performance.

"Weekly Boy" may be just a game place for comic geniuses, but in Mengying's eyes it is a high cliff that is difficult to climb. His comics are very different from mainstream cartoonists. They are good at modern warfare and depict weapons such as tanks and warships, which also leads to a very niche readers.

Mengying firmly believes that his overall strength of comics is not worse than that of others, but niche readers make him unable to support long-term serialization. He wanted to give up the theme of war several times, but was denied by the editor-in-chief Zhang Xiu.

"How do you compete with others if you give up what you are good at?"

Zhang Xiu's words were still in his ears, which made Mengying despair for a while. He wanted to escape. He felt it was difficult for him to gain a foothold in the comics industry.

However, in despair, the genius He Xi, who was out of reach in his eyes, came up with a new theme, Gundam - a huge war robot. The moment he saw this robot, Mengying discovered that he had hope of success.

No one else in "Weekly Boy" could draw the robot as well as him. He studied it all night and didn't sleep for several days. He drove out the first manuscript with Zhang Xiu. As expected, this manuscript passed.

When Mengying received the news that passed, she even started crying.

"I succeeded, I succeeded!"

He hugged Zhang Xiu and cried. Zhang Xiu knew the pressure of this year. After he cried, he invited him to eat barbecue. The two of them discussed comics at the barbecue restaurant and imagined the future. Mengying fell on the table in a non-heavy alcohol. He was so tired that he had basically never slept after the Gundam theme came out.

Zhang Xiu carried him home. Mengying was confused and still remembered the difficulty of this weak-looking editor. He was sweating profusely and took almost an hour to carry Mengying home and then handed it to his mother.

That night, Mengying swore that he must succeed. He liked drawing comics, editing and all his colleagues who worked hard for comics.

On Wednesday, "Weekly Boy" was released. Mengying got up very early and went out. Although she passed the review by Teacher He Xi, she still had to face cruel readers' investigations.

This reader survey is more terrifying than ever. As long as the comic short stories ranked in the top ten in the survey results, they would have the opportunity to be serialized, but this survey must be ranked in the top three. Among these top three, one of the places has been won by Mr. He Xi’s "Detective Conan"!

"Can you succeed?"

Mengying was a little nervous, so he walked into the bookstore to observe. Although it was early, someone had already come to buy "Weekly Boy" in the bookstore, and its sales were gradually increasing with He Xi's popularity.

"Why is this magazine thicker than before? Boss, has the price increased again? Why is Phoenix Company like this? Originally, this magazine can only be read by "Detective Conan". Isn't this intentional cheating of our money?"

A reader complained at checkout.

"Don't worry." The bookstore owner scanned the barcode and explained with a smile: "The price is still the same, and this week I added the column "He Xi's Guidance Room" to introduce short comics that Teacher He Xi guided other cartoonists to draw."

"Do you have any teacher He Xi's guidance comics?"

The reader immediately became interested: "Teacher He Xi is indeed amazing. I remember he debuted half a year ago, right? He could guide other people in a blink of an eye, but that's true. If other cartoonists had one-third of Teacher He Xi's skills, they wouldn't have heard people say bad things about "Weekly Boy" everywhere."

"By the way, what kind of comic is that?"

"Science fiction comics, the name seems to be Gundam or something, it looks very cool!" The owner of the bookstore's eyes lit up and said excitedly: "It is said that this subject is provided by Teacher He Xi. A series of short stories will be launched in the next few weeks. You must read it. It's really good."

"So good?" The reader settled the account, picked up the "Weekly Boy", and looked at the introduction on the cover: "The new short story is "Gundam First Century", and the painter is Teacher Mengying... Why haven't I heard of this teacher?"

"I haven't heard of it, it doesn't matter. He drew Gundam very well. This subject is unprecedented." The boss raised his thumbs up: "I kept fighting in my head after reading it in the morning. As expected, the War of Steel is a man's comic, and the man is so popular!"

Hearing this, Mengying praised He Xi in her heart. Sure enough, the talented cartoonist did not exaggerate it. Just giving a subject can capture the readers' hearts. Mengying's failure in the past was because of the niche subject matter, and many people did not look at this subject.

But with a casual wave of Teacher He Xi, he turned the niche market into the masses out of thin air, which is really admirable.

Although Gundam is science fiction, it is a robot driven by humans. The battle scenes are so exciting that readers are excited and refreshed. It is completely different from the iron goose bumps of tanks and warships. Tanks and warships are a war of firecrackers. How can Gundam rush up? Real fist and real ammunition are so refreshing!?

"It can be successful!"

Mengying began to be excited. He saw the reaction of the bookstore owner and the investigation was very successful.

As expected, the next day, "Weekly Boy" quickly reported, "Gundam First Century" ranked second, and the editorial department praised He Xi and the new themes endlessly. Mengying got the opportunity to launch a new series and became the most anticipated cartoonist under Teacher He Xi. It can be foreseeable that "Gundam First Century" will be a long-term serialized comic.

Other cartoonists were shocked. The Gundam theme started well, and everyone was envious and jealous. While congratulating Mengying, these cartoonists began to prepare for the Gundam series even more crazily. There was still a chance in the next few weeks. If they successfully seized the serial number, they would be veterans of the Gundam series in the future.

The next day, the "Weekly Girl" quick report also came out. The new work of the Magic Girl series, Mr. Yoshizuki's "I Am a Junior High School Student, and a Magic Girl" ranked second only to "Inuyasha".

Gundam, Magic Girl - In just one week, Meng Huo fulfilled half of his promise to Xu Jing. Not only did the entire Phoenix Company cheer, but even Xu Jing who heard the news could not calm down and burned his hand while making tea.

And Meng Huo...

When Alice told Meng Huo the result with excitement, he was unexpectedly calm.

"Is that so? Then I'm almost done..."

Meng Huo, who obviously had dark circles, muttered. After a week of busyness, his new comic was soon released, with the name "Five Centimeters in Seconds"!

(Thanks to Mengying? And Jingsi Benxin’s reward!)
