Chapter 71 Changes

After leaving the barracks, Hickrad and I found a relatively remote alley and took off the priest robe as fast as possible.

After confirming that no one had witnessed us, I raised my hand and summoned a small ball of flames and lit the robe that was thrown to the ground.

The flames quickly swallowed the black fabric, and the flame seedlings rose up with the smoke. Hiccrad and I pulled our collars and left the alley as fast as possible.

"Okay," I said to Hickrad, "we have to find a place to settle down next."

"I think we have to speed up, Sarah," Hicklad nervously called out my abbreviation, "This place makes me feel bad."

"I know, I know," I comforted, "before I enter the hotel, I have to give us a less noticeable identity."

"If anyone asks you," I said, "you say we are students who graduated from the Imperial Bard Academy and come to Grey Kirishima to find inspiration."

"Good idea," Hickrad nodded in agreement, "but we don't have any instruments."

"Just say we are from the vocal department," I said, "You did graduate from there anyway."

Hickrad nodded with a smile. After confirming his fake identity to cover us, we found a hotel that looked pretty good nearby.

"Sword and Rose" is the name of this hotel. It sounds cliché, but this three-storey hotel looks good. Although its exterior decoration is not gorgeous, it is not too shabby.

At least it is much better than breaking the hammer.

"Just this one," I said to Hickrad, then quickly stepped up the steps at the entrance and opened the wooden door.

Compared with the broken hammer, the business here is obviously much better. More than two-thirds of the seats in the hall were sitting, and the waiter was carrying trays and quickly shuttled between the tables of chatting and laughing guests, serving them drinks and food.

"Welcome, welcome," I just took Hickrad to the bar and the hotel owner noticed us, "Where are you from? What do you need? We provide food of all grades and accommodation services."

"We are bards from the Empire," I grinned gracefully at the innkeeper. "I heard the scenery is nice, so my friends and I came here to find inspiration."

"Ah, bard!" the innkeeper laughed heroically, "You seem to be a little abilities. If I weren't familiar with Chavez, I would have wanted to invite you to my store to sing!"

"So, you are looking for a place to live, then you are in the right place," the boss stretched out his left hand and spread it in front of us. "The quality room is waiting for you, only fifty copper coins are needed in one night."

"Sounds good, what do you think, Xiao Ke?"

Hickrad asked with a serious look on his face.

"I think it's good, just here."

While responding to Hickrad's question, I took out a gold coin from my pocket, "I want two rooms, and the rest will be replaced with food."

"No problem," the boss happily took away the gold coins, "Please come with me, two."

With the help of our boss, we quickly settled down at this hotel.

Time passed quickly, and the moonlight quickly spread into this dangerous city. After Shickled and I packed our luggage, we returned from the room to the hall.

The hotel lobby is at its most lively moment. The seats in the lobby are crowded with people, and the entire hotel is filled with the sound of wine glasses intersecting.

Hickrad and I sat at the bar, and the boss obviously remembered us, "You guys are here, I'll prepare dinner for you now."

He walked into the kitchen while laughing at us.

Not long after, the dinner was delivered to us. As soon as we picked up the spoon, the door of the hotel was roughly knocked open.

A young man rushed in in a panic, "No...no!" he shouted loudly, "Captain Wells of the City Guard was killed in the military camp!"

His words were like a bombshell, which detonated the entire hall in an instant. The already noisy hall suddenly became even more noisy, and everyone's faces showed an incredible look.

"Damn it," I whispered, "It seems that the plague source churches have become even more arrogant."

Captain Wells' death means the disappearance of allies we finally found in Cross. If I was not wrong, the newly appointed head of the City Guard would definitely be the believer at the source of the plague.

It seems that these believers have gotten from somewhere that Wells is helping us, "We harmed him," I said, "Now I just want to kill all these damn cults."

"Control expressions, Saren," Hickrad replied in a low and hurried voice, "We cannot be sure if there are any believers in this hall who are from the source of plague, don't let your expression become your flaw."

"Huh," I let out a long sigh, "You're right, Hill," I said, "we need to find other helpers."

I quickly suppressed the anger in my heart, and then showed a confused expression, making myself look different from most people in the hall.

"Follow me," I said in a low voice, "don't let others see the flaws."

Hickrad quickly changed into a confused expression, he really had the talent for acting.

"You look confused, and you don't know the seriousness of this matter."

The boss noticed our confused expression, and he smiled bitterly, and then began to introduce us to something we had known for a long time with his loud voice.

"That's how it is," after a long talk, the hotel owner spread his hands at us. "Captain Wells can be said to be the head of security in our city, which is the main reason why everyone is shocked."

"So that's it," I exclaimed while showing a perfect look of shock, "What should I do during this period?"

"The City Guard should still function properly," said the hotel owner, "and then the council will soon elect a new City Guard captain."

"Damn it!" The innkeeper's words made me curse in my heart. If the new city guard captain was chosen in this way, it undoubtedly means that the Church of the Source of the Plague even has a lot of people in the parliament.

I couldn't help but think about how much the city has been penetrated.

I remembered another thing Vic once told me. Many hunters took over the mission of going to Grey Kirishima to solve the vampire, but strangely, Hickrad and I have not found any hunters yet.

In addition, there is no branch of the Vampire Hunter Guild on this island, which makes me feel very bad.

Maybe all this is a trap? I couldn't help but think in my heart that this thought made my hair stand up all over my body, and I felt like I fell into an ice cave.

If from the beginning, the release of this task was a trap designed for interaction between the source of the plague, wouldn’t Hickrad and I take the initiative to step into an extremely dangerous place?

This conclusion made me cold all over. I pretended to be calm and picked up the spoon at my hand and started to eat the dinner on the plate in big mouthfuls.

"You have to be careful, Saren," I said to myself, "and what is wrong and waiting for you and Hickrad is the terrible ending."

In the next two days, while the new City Guard captain had not yet taken office and the City Guard's behavior had not yet been biased, Hickrad and I began to collect various information as much as possible.

Walking on the streets of the small town of Cross, I could clearly feel the change of the atmosphere, and the guards on the street became much more severe, and the soldiers of the city guards could be seen everywhere.

I can understand their feelings. For them, it is a great shame for the city guard to have a traitor, and the captain of his own was killed in the most guarded military camp.

Hickrad and I walked to the gate of the barracks, where a large group of Elkain's pastors gathered, and it seemed that they were here to be responsible for Captain Wells' funeral.

I sighed. If those two robes were still there, we might be able to get into the barracks.

In desperation, I had to take Hickrad to the bar opposite the bar, hoping to find more clues about Wells' murder here.

When we came in, there were many soldiers wearing light chain armor sitting in the bar. They all looked bad and drank the beer in their hands one by one, as if they wanted to vent their anger in this way.

Hickrad and I walked quickly to the bar, and the boss here quickly walked to us, "What do you want, two?"

His tone was like greeting guests who had entered this store for the first time, which made me feel much more at ease. It seemed that the boss had never seen us before.

"It's me, boss," I said in his familiar tone, "that Elcain's priest."

The boss thought for a second or two in confusion for a while, then nodded as if he suddenly realized, "It's you, those two pastors who were involved in the case of the Dead Hall."

He suddenly became extremely enthusiastic and poured two glasses of juice for us. "Sorry, I didn't expect you to appear here today, not wearing sacrificial robes," he paused at this point, quietly pointed at the barracks across the street, and then lowered his voice, "I thought you would be there."

"It should have been there," I smiled bitterly, "Captain Wells respects us, Elkain's followers. Unfortunately, my friend and I take turns today, so it's not our turn to attend the funeral at the barracks."

Speaking of this, I showed anger and thumped the tabletop of the bar hard, "Captain Wells has always enforced the law impartially. Who did this thing that made my god hate?"

"I have some news about this," the boss lowered his voice again and said as if he offered treasure. "Did you see the people over there?" He pointed to the group of soldiers not far away. "Since Captain Wells was killed, they have been lingering in my bar every day, and they always had to drink until they were unconscious before they were willing to return to the barracks."

"You know, Lord Priest," he smiled suddenly, "when people drink too much, they like to talk nonsense, and these soldiers are no exception."

"They got drunk once and got furious in my bar. Garcia was on it. It was a terrible night," he patted his chest, obviously still in fear. "But I heard some news."

He said this, looked around again, then leaned to my ear and whispered: "The soldiers said Captain Wells was stabbed to death by a dagger in his room, and the one who started the attack was one of the few deputy captains he valued very much."

"It is said, of course, just said," he said, "that deputy captain is a member of a cult called The Source of Plague!"

"The source of the plague?" I immediately pretended to be confused, "What kind of sect is this?"

"Ah, priest," the bar owner smiled immediately, "It seems that you worship the great Elkain in the shrine every day, and you don't know much about the outside world."

"This Plague Source Sect is an extremely large organization. I heard that even the capital Kapophis has their branches, and the empires over the sea are full of believers from the Plague Source Sect."

"So that's it," I nodded, then showed a disgusting look and waved my hand in disgust. "That's not a serious church."

Then I smiled and said to the bar owner: "The information you provide is very valuable. Whether the bishop knows this news or not, I will report it to him. Of course, you will not mention your name, so don't worry."

"Praise Garcia and Elkain," the boss obviously breathed a sigh of relief, "I just hope that these evil guys can be punished immediately by God's punishment."

"That's of course, brother, that's of course," I comforted him, sipped the juice in the glass, and gently slid the glass to the bar owner, "Wait and pray patiently," I said, "The day when my God declares justice will come soon!"

After leaving this sentence, I pulled Hickrad, who was silent, and walked out of the bar with great enthusiasm, just like a true Elcain believer.

"How do you think of this boss?" I whispered to Hickrad as soon as he left the bar. He had been observing the boss while he was in the bar.

"It doesn't look fake," Hickrad shook his head, "he was deeply in love when he spoke. I think he should not be a spy from the Church of the Plague Source."

"I feel the same way," I smiled. "When he mentioned Garcia and Elcaine, the piety in his tone was obvious. Those plague-source churches certainly couldn't do this, and this boss must be a pious."

"Take this bar down," I said, "these soldiers always come here for two drinks, which is a great source of information."

"I feel so too," Hickrad grinned, quickly took out a small notebook from his pocket and recorded the name of the bar.

After he wrote down the detailed address and name of the bar, I patted him on the shoulder and quickly left here and returned to Sword and Rose.
