Chapter 74 Deep into the Forest

Before everyone could react, Hickrad and I packed up our things as quickly as possible, left the Sword and Rose Inn, and left Cross from the North Gate.

Outside the north gate of Cross is a cobblestone road leading straight to the north, and Hickrad and I walked quickly north along the road, and we turned into the forest in the middle section.

From time to time, you could see wooden signs and travelers returning from Templu in the north. Hickrad and I had to slow down and try our best to look like tourists coming to Grey Kirishima.

But I know we don't have much time. If the City Guards are braver, they may even find the dead new City Guard Captain.

For us, how Cross City reacts is second to the next. The Plague Church will never give these ordinary people the opportunity to intervene, and they will definitely be more willing to solve us with their own hands.

This made me a little nervous. The power of the source of the plague on this island is not comparable to that of ordinary Cross City nobles. If I was right, a unit belonging to the source of the plague might have set out from Cross City.

They would intercept us at a point in the forest linking the forest with Cross City.

I dare not say they will do this, but this is the most likely result.

"Be careful, Hickrad," I said to my companion, "we have to speed up," I said, and told him my guess.

"You're right, I don't want to face two groups of pursuers from the Church of Plague Source at the same time," said Hickrad.

So we decided that we would not stay on the road for even a second, except for eating and minimal rest. Garcia was there and there was no time to waste it for us.

At the same time, in order to avoid being discovered by spies or scouts sent from the source of the plague, Hickrad and I decided to leave the road the next day and go deep into the forest.

Of course, this is not as comfortable as moving on the cobbled road, but with the map of the Church of the Source of Plague in hand, we are not afraid of getting lost.

This is a huge forest. The locals call it the Sunshine Forest, but no matter how you look at it, it has nothing to do with the Sunshine Forest.

The clearings and paths in the forest are always shrouded in a gloomy and dark light, and the ground is filled with the unique gray fog of the Gray Misty Island, making the woods look very gloomy and terrifying.

This is the base of the Church of the Source of Plague. Hickrad and I walked carefully through the forest. The leather boots were stomping on the withered and fell, and the leaves were spread all over the ground. The veins of the leaves were broken and made a somewhat creeping crunch.

"The woods are so sunny," Hickrad walked behind me and muttered with some complaints. I could understand his mood. This forest not only did not see the sunshine all year round, but it was filled with gray fog, and the air was extremely wet.

The damp air is pervasive. They penetrate through the gaps in the leather armor and stick tightly to every passerby walking here, making people feel extremely uncomfortable.

I have only felt this uncomfortable air in tropical areas, just as all the pores on your body are no longer breathable, stuffy and uncomfortable.

After staying here for a long time, I even began to feel that the leather armor on my body became extremely wet, just as if I had just been fished out of the water.

I looked back at the place where we came in. It was dusk, and Garcia's avatar was radiating its last light to the fullest. When it completely sank under the horizon, Elkain's avatar, Serath, will take over the power to rule the land.

This is a very strange scene, as if there is an invisible dividing line. On the other side is the normal Grey Island, and on this side is a completely different sunshine wood.

After confirming the time, I turned around and patted Hickrad on the shoulder, "It's getting late," I said, "Let's get here today. We have to set up camp and prepare for rest."

"It's finally time to rest," Hickrad breathed a long sigh of relief, "I've had enough of this damn woods! I must raise a big bonfire and dry the damn humid air here!"

We immediately spread out and began to search for the branches and leaves needed for the bonfire. Due to the air here, most of the branches and leaves we found were extremely wet, and only a small part was dry.

"This is not possible," I shook my head. "These wet leaves and branches will cause extremely thick smoke, and I don't want to be choked to death."

"Come here and help me," I looked at Hickrad and waved to him, "You put these things in a net bag and I will dry them with flames."

"As long as I can get rid of this humid air, you can do whatever you want me to do."

Hickrad quickly took a pile of vines, and soon he made a net bag, and then put the leaves and branches in it.

"Good craftsmanship," I sat aside, watching him work in surprise, "Where did you learn this?"

"You wouldn't think I was the noble young man from the past, Sarah," Hickrad looked at me and grinned. His big white teeth were extremely conspicuous in the dark woods. "I have learned a lot of practical skills in the past few years."

While talking, he flexibly tied the top of the net bag and hung it up with a branch.

"Okay," he clapped his hands and rubbed off the soil on it, "you can start baking, respected fire rune master Mr. Saren."

I glared at him, then summoned my own flame, and began to bake the pile of branches and leaves patiently.

This is a job that tests patience and skills. Once the flame is too big, the net bag and the things inside will be burned to ashes in an instant.

The good news is that Hickrad and I collected enough fuel, and the leaves and branches were enough for us to use until tomorrow morning.

I slowly baked the leaves and branches, and by the way, I chatted with Hickrad, who was practicing runes.

The boring work lasted for two hours. Hickrad, who had finished practicing runes a hour ago, left the camp and said he was going to get some food.

I looked at the dry leaves and branches, breathed a sigh of relief, wiped the sweat from my head, and baking for two hours was not an easy task for me.

The bushes not far from me suddenly trembled. I lay on the ground and grabbed a small ball of flame in my hand.

If the person who came to Hickrad, it would be safe, but if the person who came to the believer who was the source of the plague, I would let him taste the flavor of flames.

A dark figure soon appeared in front of me, and Hickrad walked over quickly with several hares.

Seeing that it was Hickrad, I let out a gentle breath and got up from the ground.

"I'm lucky," said Hickrad, holding the rabbit, "we can have something good tonight."

While he placed the rabbit on the ground, he piled up a simple campfire with stones.

"Okay," he smiled at me, throwing the branches and leaves in his net pocket into the bonfire, "Now it's your turn to show off, the great fire rune master."

I looked at him angrily and snapped my fingers. The originally gentle flame instantly became several times larger. The beating hot flames easily dispelled the surrounding water vapor and lit the bonfire.

The heat came out of the jumping flames, bringing a hint of warmth.

Hickrad couldn't wait to sit down in front of the campfire, and he stretched out his hands and let out a satisfying moan.

"Ah, this is amazing. Those damn moisture can finally leave me for the time being."

Hickrad and I sat by the fire for a short while, drying our armor while skewers of rabbits onto the bonfire.

The rabbits on the fire soon became fragrant, and we finished the dinner voraciously with the softened dry food.

The sunshine forest after the moisture faded was quite comfortable. After confirming that there were only fire seeds left in the fire, we lay on a simple bed covered with leaves. The fatigue of the day came towards me so quickly that I didn't know when I was already asleep.

A cold liquid suddenly hit my face, and the extremely irritating chill made me wake up suddenly.

I straightened my waist from the bed, touched my face, and only felt some wet water droplets.

I looked up and saw that the leaves of the big tree above my head were covered with water droplets, and it was still falling down.

I frowned, the air became wetter than last night, and the grey fog rose up and filled the air, making it difficult to see the situation in the distance.

"Wake up, Hill," I crouched down and woke Hickrad who was still sleeping, "It's time for us to leave."

Hickrad, who had just woken up, was still a little sleepy, but he soon remembered where he was.

"When is it now?" he asked, rubbing his head.

I took out my pocket watch and looked at it, "We have to set off at 7:13 in the morning."

"You're right." Hickrad took a deep breath and climbed up from the ground. "Let's go, people from the source of the plague will find here at any time."

After completely awakening from sleepiness, we quickly cleared all traces of the camp and buried the fire in the land. For me, who had established a connection with the land, these things were easy.

"Okay," I put down my hand, and the soil not far away stopped turning, "All the traces were swallowed up to the depths of the ground, let's go."

"I really envy you, Sarah," Hickrad said in amazement, "Earth Feng Shui and Fire, the basic elements that make up the world seem to be under your control."

Hickrad's words suddenly woke me up. Earth, Feng, Shui and Fire are the most basic elements in this world. If they are combined, can I create a new thing like the dwarfs creating supreme metal, representing the power of elements in this world?

I simply talked about my thoughts to Hickrad, who first showed a somewhat shocked expression, and then became excited.

"It's very likely," he said to me with some excitement, "Oh my God, if you really succeed, then all the elemental mages and four-series elemental rune masters are lambs to be slaughtered in front of you!"

Hickrad's words made me extremely excited. In the next few days, in addition to resting time, I went north along the forest while constantly pondering the possibility of integrating these four-system elements.

It is obviously impossible for water and fire to merge together immediately. The explosion caused by these two impacts can make me crushed to pieces.

I decided to start with the fire and wind fusion that I have mastered and developed the corresponding spell. This is the simplest and least dangerous fusion.

"auir!zuyk!" I called out the flames and winds loudly, letting them merge together, and then slowly turned into an extremely sharp spear.

"God," Hickrad stood aside and exclaimed, "Your progress is so fast, Sarah, I'm a little jealous of you."

"go!"

I shouted loudly and threw out the spear in my hand. The spear mixed with blue and red color flew out like lightning, easily piercing through a large tree with a total of ten people's environmental protection.

The flames in the gun body began to roll continuously at this moment. As the whirlwind energy completely dissipated, the entire spear exploded instantly, and a very terrifying hole was made in the trunk of the big tree.

"Garcia is on!" Hickrad exclaimed, and I turned to look at him. His mouth was wide open, and he could completely stuff a whole baguette.

"Go, Hill," I pushed him, "I don't want to attract the attention of others."

Hickrad nodded, and we quickly left here and continued northward.

This forest is bigger than we thought. We ran for two more days, but still did not find the base where the source of the plague came from.

"This shouldn't be..." I sat on a tree and moaned with a headache, "Where is their base?"

"Maybe we should go deep into the forest, Sarah," said Hickrad, leaning lazily against another tree, "although we have been running for several days, I can feel that we are still on the outer edge of the forest."

"What you said makes sense," I jumped out of the tree and clapped my hands, "Can your supplies still hold on?"

"Enough to last forever!"

Hickrad laughed twice, followed me off the tree, and I pulled out my compass and the map, "No matter what, we have to go northeast."

Hickrad nodded, "Then what are we waiting for? Let's go."

I put the map into my bag, took the compass, and walked all the way northeast.

The deeper we walked into the sunshine forest, the wetter the air and the dimmer the light became. We had to take out the fire sticks and continue carefully.

For the next two days, we kept going deeper toward the northeast until the voice came from us.

"Quick! The Supreme Lord needs a new batch of sacrifices!"

Hickrad and I looked at each other and smiled, it seemed that we had finally found the base for this damn churchgoers.
