Chapter III Interrogation

There was a sound of heavy machinery operating outside the room, which sounded like some kind of assembly line. Maybe it was a car factory, a meat cannery factory or a beverage factory. Devit was thinking about these things, irrelevant things.

An hour ago, he was brought here with a black hood. An empty house with only about ten square meters was sealed with windows. The entire house was only a chandelier above his head, and the light could not shine on the surrounding walls and corners.

Devite was tied to a chair with a rope. After unbuttoning his head, the big thug followed Sunny started to beat him. The thug was named Gawa, an amateur boxer. He looked at the size of the middleweight. He wrapped gauze around his hands and hit Devite's abdomen, chest, neck and face for forty minutes. He also spent about twenty minutes to ask questions, but the answer he got was basically "You punch like a drunk man" or "I think you're almost out of breath, do you want to take a break?"

The cigarette butts all over the floor showed that Sonny's time and patience had been almost worn out, and Garva seemed to have given up the interrogation. He walked to Sonny, leaned in his ear and lowered his voice, "I don't think there will be any result if I continue to fight. I have met a similar guy in the Middle East before, and I didn't even ask about my name for two hours of electric shock."

Sonny pushed Gava away, took out his pistol from his shirt, and pressed Dwight's forehead: "Listen, bastard, this is your last chance to speak your superior's name."

"I've said a long time ago that if you use the organ you put in your head a little bit, you can rule out the possibility that I am a policeman."

The stock hit DeWitt's chin heavily, and Sonny said angrily: "Okay, since you can't pry your mouth open." He turned around and pulled out another chair from the dark shadow in a corner of the room. Mike was tied to it, but it seemed that he had not punched.

"I'm sorry, man, I can only think of a solution from you." Sonny waved his hand and signaled Gava to come over, as if he was about to attack Mike.

"Hey! Hey! What's this for me? What's the matter with me? You introduced this person to me. I've known him for less than twenty-four hours, and I don't even know his last name." Mike shouted quickly, "Besides, I'll tell you everything I know!"

"Yes, you told us all, you said he killed all the people who came to deliver the Genovese family, threw them into Lake Michigan, and took you to escape from the pursuit of police forces in nearly half of the city. Do you think this is in a TV game or a movie? Do I look like a three-year-old? Mike, my guy, our previous cooperation was still very pleasant, but if you continue to make up stories, you can't blame me for not caring about the past friendship."

"You're not a three-year-old, you're just a little stupid." Dewitt smiled behind Sonny.

"You bastard!" Sonny was furious and rushed forward to attack Devit for two old punches.

At this time, Gava untied the blood-stained gauze on his hands and threw it on the ground, changed to two clean ones, and wrapped them again on his hands. He had already taken off his shirt, his arms were knotted and his veins were protruding. The strong man with a tiger back and bear waist stood in front of the white and thin Mike, and it became more and more weak. Even if he untied the rope, Mike would probably be beaten down by three punches.

"Boy, do you want me to take off your glasses for you? I don't want you to scream like a girl after the lens is inserted into your eyes." Gava knocked his left hand twice at the palm of his left hand, as if he was about to take action.

Mike quickly said, "Wait...you wait, don't do it, I can explain."

Sonny came over again: "I'm listening."

Mike said: "Since you don't believe what I said before, I can help you analyze the worst situation you are worried about, it's nothing more than... Devit is a policeman, an agent or HL, and I have made some deal with him to help him hide something that happened yesterday. But you can think about it again, it's absolutely impossible."

Sonny said: "Why? Just because you met this person yesterday, I should believe that you have no chance of being bribed by him? I have seen a lot of kids like you, and have received some higher education and have done some illegal activities in secret. As long as the note comes to you and threatens you with jail and future, you immediately become an informant like a bitch, hoping to send someone like me into prison in exchange for a witness protection plan or something?"

Mike swallowed and replied, "Mr. Luchez, I have to reiterate that you asked him to come to me."

Sonny said, "Yes, because I think this guy is a liar. He actually calls himself a 'consultant'..." He turned around and grabbed Dewit's hair and said to his face, "Do you think I've never heard of that consultant? If a man in his forties walked up to me, maybe I would have a 100% chance of believing it, but don't you, the kid, feel that he's too tender to pretend to be a legend?"

Devit just smiled and was too lazy to respond.

Sonny returned to Mike: "So I told him the delivery time and location of Tony and said to him, 'If you are really a consultant, you know what to do to prove yourself'."

Mike replied: "Then you introduce me to him because I know a lot about the various transaction information in the city. If Dwight actually calls the police to disrupt the transaction, you can completely clear yourself afterwards."

Sonny smiled and said, "I guessed it well."

Mike continued: "As a result, Tony may be arrested, or simply shot dead for resisting arrest. Even if he is not dead or the police cannot sue him and let him go, the transaction on this line will definitely be ruined, and Tony will have a hard time in the Genovese family, and your purpose of revenge will be achieved.

But no matter what the result is, Genovese will suspect that you are making trouble behind the scenes because you and Tony have been having sex. At that time, you can pretend that you don’t know anything. Even if Devite points you, you can say that he is a liar and wants to rely on the power of the Luches family to protect himself, and push me out at the right time as some evidence to prove that the information about the transaction was not revealed by you."

Dewit spoke again later: "Sonny, this kid is much smarter than you."

"If you don't shut up, I'll cut off your tongue." Sonny turned around and intimidated.

Mike changed the subject: "But you didn't expect that Devite did not call the police as you imagined, but chose to eat black and escape successfully. Because you didn't believe he could do this, you suspect that he was a policeman, and no matter what he did last night, it was only possible to complete it with the secret cooperation of the police."

Sonny said: "Yes, so we're talking about it again? Boy, what good did this post give you? What exactly happened last night?"

Mike sighed: "If the city of Chicago is still operating normally, I think you have read everything that happened last night in the newspaper this morning."

When Sonny heard this, his expression changed slightly.

Mike continued: "The media reports should be that two burnt cars were found, one was a van and the other was a hit-and-run vehicle that had created traffic chaos in the afternoon. Some footprints were found at the scene, but no one was found." He paused at this point: "Don't you think this is exactly in line with the actual situation I told you before?"

Sonny snorted coldly, "It's right? Why do I think the tweets captured Tony and his gang and let you go, and then blocked the news from the outside world, which is even more right?" He looked at Mike: "And you came to me at 11:00 this morning, and it's normal for me to read a few newspapers in advance in the morning."

Mike said: "So, according to your speculation, suppose DeWitt is the undercover agent sent by the police, and the incident should be like this...

First, DeWitt attempts to break into your family in a very amazing way—assuming a consultant, I think any normal-minded undercover detective will be better than this even if he chooses to throw peanuts in the face in a bar.

And you didn't believe him from the beginning, but he failed in the first step; then he jumped into the obvious trap of your design, and he bribed me with coercion and inducement, a person who had known me for less than a long time, and then after all the design was completed last night, he brought me, a person who was completely unfaithful and had no training, to see you again like a net, without any worries about me betray him because I couldn't stand the torture and confession."

The expression on Sonny's face changed a few times, and it seemed that it was shaken, but Mike hadn't finished saying: "Mr. Luchez, you should think about it carefully. Your suspicion is unfounded and illogical. In addition, even if you insist on saying that he is a policeman, I strongly recommend that you not torture me, a person who is already out of the matter. Just shoot him and solve him. He has nothing to do with me. I will come with him today because this bastard refuses to pay me."

At this point, the fifth person's voice sounded in the room again, and the low voice said, "Okay, Sonny, you and Gawa will go out first, don't forget to close the door."

Sonny responded, glared at the two people on the chair, and walked out with Gava.

In the corner of the house, in the darkness, there was another person who had been there from the beginning, but neither Dwitter nor Mike noticed him, and Sunny and Garva also deliberately pretended that there were only four people in the house.

In the shadow, a white-haired old man walked out with a beard and wearing a suit that only a working class could afford for a year. He also moved a stool, sat in front of the two, and said, "I admire you very much. You know, when I was at your age, I was wandering around all day and living a playboy life, which made my parents very worried." His eyes moved to Dewit's face: "I hope you can forgive my suspicion. I fully believe that the consultant is a talented and very young person. I just hate those undercover agents.

We are a big family, and it is inevitable that some people with ulterior motives will get in. I accept them and treat them as family members, but these internal thieves only want to destroy the interests of the family and send their brothers to prison, which hurts our feelings and self-esteem."

Devitt spitted out the blood from his mouth: "So, is the final test of the drama just now, or will there be more tests in the future?"

The old man replied: "I think it's enough, child, if you are a top student secretly picked by the chief from the police academy, your eyes shouldn't be like that when the gun is pointed at your head."

"Oh? What?" Dewit said with a smile.

"I have seen many undercovers who are facing fatal threats. When they arrive, they will think of their family, their tasks or their commanders, and in short, they will recall meaningful things. Even though he is calm on the surface and ready to face death, some emotions cannot be concealed.

And if you are a villain who is wronged, you will show anger, unwillingness, and even more crazy guys, such as you, look like you are thinking about boring things, such as what you will eat for dinner tonight."

"Uh...sir, who are you?" Mike interrupted.

"Joseph Luches, I think you should have heard of this name, young man," Joseph replied.

Mike lowered his head and smiled: "Haha...I'm honored to meet your husband. I think if I could get out of here alive today, I wouldn't be a law-abiding citizen in the future."

Joseph said: "You are no longer a law-abiding citizen, Mike."

De Witt seemed quite excited: "What made the boss of the Luches family choose to see me in person? When you first sat in this room, you probably haven't heard Mike's narrative yet. You just read the newspaper reports. Could it be..."

Joseph continued: "Even after I saw the report, the first person to doubt it was Sonny, and he dared not lie in front of me."

"Hmph... I understand. Even if it is only one in ten thousand possible, you want to bet. I am the real consultant, because you need a 'advisor' now."

Joseph said: "Young man, I have checked some of your affairs. The name Dwitter Lair is just a symbol, just like the title of "Advisor", which cannot represent anything. At present, I am 90% sure that you are not a policeman, but I am not even 30% sure about you being an advisor himself.

Maybe you did do a bad business last night, but as far as I know, there are some people in this world with special talents, some people call them superpowers, abilities, or just freaks. If you are one of them, I think it is still possible to deal with Tony and Joe, and it makes sense to escape the pursuit of ordinary police."

Dewitt said: "You don't need a capable person, because it will call a department at the HL level to intervene, which is a taboo for the gang and a dangerous line; what you need is the wisdom of the 'advisor', the strategy of crime, and that's what you want."

Joseph said: "It's very correct. Yesterday you took the initiative to come to Sonny, which means that at least in the short term, you only want to cooperate with our Luches family. Your position has been tested just now. Now I don't care whether you are the so-called capable person or not. If you are a consultant, I will hire you. Of course, I only need the plan you provide."

Dewitt said: "What if I weren't?"

Joseph stood up and loosened Dwitter and Mike himself, and said, "You'd better prove that you are, because my expectations have been raised to a very high level." He said to Mike again, "And you, I will only serve the Luches family in the future. I think, with your talents, you will soon be above Sunny."

Mike said: "Sir, Sonny is the surname Luches, he is your real relative..."

Joseph shrugged: "Of course, otherwise that idiot would have been thrown into the sea long ago."

"Ha...hehe..." Mike smiled stiffly.

DeWitt moved his muscles and bones: "I do have a big deal to talk to you, Mr. Luches, but before that, since you still have doubts about my identity, I will do something for you for free while Tony and Joe's body is not cold."
